As a part of ZAFT's "New Millennium" series mobile suits, the ZGMF-1001 ZAKU Phantom can be outfitted with various Wizard packs to operate in different mission roles. One such configuration is the ZGMF-1001/K Slash ZAKU Phantom. While the Blaze Wizard pack features extra thrusters and a pair of missile containers, the Slash Wizard pack includes a pair of "Hydra" Gatling beam cannons. The Slash ZAKU Phantom is also armed with a beam axe, which is stored on its backpack. A blue custom painted Slash ZAKU Phantom is used by Yzak Joule during ZAFT's attempt to stop a group of disaffected Coordinator terrorists from dropping the remains of Junius Seven on Earth in October C.E. 73. Following the "Break the World" incident and the outbreak of the second Earth Alliance/ZAFT war, Yzak leads mobile suit forces into battle to protect the PLANTs from the Alliance's nuclear assaults.
