Technical and Historical Notes

In early C.E. 71, the Orb Union secretly assists in the Atlantic Federation's mobile suit development project. In turn, Orb steals data from the Atlantic mobile suits to create three prototype Gundam Astray units. These prototypes are later mass produced as the MBF-M1 M1 Astray. Orb also produces the MBF-M1A M1A Astray as a space combat variant. The M1A Astray is mostly identical to the M1 Astray, but it features additional thrusters for space mobility. Its armaments are also mostly identical, but its standard beam rifle has been replaced with a sniper beam rifle. Most of the M1A Astrays are deployed at the Sahaku family space station Ame-no-Mihashira, but one unit used by Barry Ho is stationed aboard the Kusanagi.
