Technical
and Historical Notes
The third
unit in the Gundam F90 series built
by the Earth Federation Forces' Strategic Naval Research Institute
was the F90III-Y Cluster Gundam (also informally known as the
"F90 Third"). The Cluster Gundam was radically different from
previous F90 units in that it incorporated a Core Block System
for its cockpit and backpack, thus creating a greater chance
of survival for the pilot. Like its other F90 predecessors,
the Cluster Gundam did feature hardpoints located all over its
body for externally mounting optional "mission pack" equipment
and weapons as required. Completed at the SNRI's facility in
the Frontier I colony, the Cluster Gundam did see some brief
field action in March UC 0123 during an escape from that colony,
which had just been conquered by the Crossbone Vanguard.
