Technical and Historical Notes

Following the conclusion of the Jovian War in UC 0133, the XM-X1 (F97) Crossbone Gundam X1 Kai is further remodeled by the Crossbone Vanguard remnants. Because SNRI uses the basic Crossbone Gundam frame to produce their next-generation mobile suit, the F99 Record Breaker, new parts are in abundant supply. A balance is struck between the original X1 and the X1 Kai, mounting one scissor anchor on the front right skirt and one screw whip on the rear left skirt. However, the most eye-catching change is the skull relief on the chest, which is seen as a better symbol for a group of space pirates than the crest of an elite force centered around the concept of nobility. This distinctive decoration earns it the nickname Skull Heart thanks to rumors and vague sightings from the space colonies. During the battle with the Amakusa, the Skull Heart wields a newly-developed special weapon, the peacock smasher. This crossbow-like weapon mounts nine separate beam guns which can be fired in any arrangement, but simultaneous use drains its energy and requires the replacement of the barrel parts. During the attack on SNRI's lunar facility, the Skull Heart is badly damaged by the new Jovian mobile suit Cornix, forcing the Crossbone Vanguard to hastily repair it with whatever parts are available, producing the XM-X1 Crossbone Gundam Patchwork.
