Technical and Historical Notes

As the Zanscare Empire continues to spread its tyrannical military and political power throughout the Earth Sphere, their forces launch an invasion and occupation of Earth to make way for their religious radical "true believers." With the Earth Federation slowly collapsing into political and military insignificance, the only hope for freedom lies with the underground resistance organization known as the League Militaire. In UC 0153, the League Militaire launches its "Victory Project" from their Kolin factory near Eastern Europe's Point Kasarelia (in the former Czech Republic), its goal being to design and mass-produce advanced new mobile suits to counter the Zanscare threat. Their flagship mobile suit is the LM312V04 Victory Gundam, named after the legendary Federation mobile suits of its heyday, and serving as a symbol of freedom for the League Militaire forces. Built around a Core Fighter base, the Victory Gundam can separate into a "Top Fighter" and "Bottom Fighter," each of which can be docked with a Core Fighter or operated via remote control from another Core Fighter. This modular/docking design not only increases the chances of pilot survivability, thus allowing a pilot to continue fighting if part of his mobile suit is damaged or destroyed, but also allows for replacement of destroyed Top Fighter or Bottom Fighter modules mid-battle if the need arises.

The Victory Gundam is also the first mobile suit to feature the "Minovsky flight" system, a miniaturized Minovsky craft system designed to keep the mobile suit floating in mid-air at any altitude while it maneuvers with its rocket and vernier thrusters. This system is much more efficient and makes for greater combat flexibility than the Zanscare mobile suits' beam rotor system, and the Minovsky flight technology later serves as the basis for the successor LM314V21 Victory 2 Gundam's much more advanced "Minovsky drive." Several Victory Gundams are manufactured at the Kolin factory, with replacement Top Fighter and Bottom Fighter modules being readily available for battlefield replacements. The original Victory Gundam design also serves as the basis for the cheaper, non-transforming mass-produced LM111E02 Gun-EZ.
