Technical and Historical Notes |
At the request of AEUG's Earth support organization Karaba, AEUG places an order with Anaheim Electronics to develop a mobile suit for Earth combat. The request calls for an artillery mobile suit suitable for
use in guerilla combat with stable shooting ability. Anaheim produces the MSA-005K Guncannon Detector, which uses the same mobile frame as the MSA-005 Methuss units assigned to the AEUG flagship Argama. Although the original proposal is to equip the unit with two 137mm rocket launchers on the shoulders, it is changed to two beam cannons and a beam gun is attached to the right shoulder. The head features a pair of vulcan guns, and the unit also includes a beam rifle which doubles as a grenade launcher. The targeting scope and the sensor system of the Guncannon Detector is very advanced. By applying the variable form of the Methuss, it is able to take a shooting position in an instant. This is aided with backpack struts extending out and stopping the reaction of the cannons.
Two units are built and dropped by shuttle to North America. One unit is destroyed in failed landing attempt, while the second is collected by Karaba and added to its military forces. Because Karaba director Hayato Kobayashi piloted an RX-77-2 Guncannon in the One Year War, the unit is painted with a red color scheme and he names it "Guncannon Detector."
