As far as I can tell, this is one of the first models from the SD G Generation Neo line, inspired by the Mobile Fighter G Gundam series. It’s also my first SD model. When I saw the box art and reviews in an online store, I knew I had to have this kit! When I actually bought the kit, it wasn’t exactly what I expected but the hard work I’ve put into it paid off. Let’s see how this model measures up to the others.
Head
The God Gundam’s head is composed of two halves enclosing a separate red part for the eyes and chin (which hinders movement of the head but that’s to be expected). The double V-Fin attaches to the top and it’s covered by the front head camera, a separate part. Stickers are included for the eyes and front cameras. The molding of the head is very nice and accurate to the original mech.
Torso
The torso is also a good SD variation. The chest consists of the front and back parts in which a bottom part for the waist is wedged. It also has 2 swiveling joints for the arms and a yellow part showing the chest vents and the ‘core’ that glows when the Gundam activates its Hyper Mode (a green sticker is included for this part). But one special feature of the chest includes two open/close chest pieces. You’ll need a wedge to remove the closed piece (composed of two parts) and the open piece further limits movement of the head. The back of the chest has a compartment to attach the Core Lander, which I’ll talk about later.
The abdomen is pretty standard for an SD kit. In it is a polycap that attaches it to the chest (for some reason, the chest tilts from front to back instead of side to side). The front skirt armor is the only movable skirt on the abdomen. There are three stickers for the pelvis and front skirt armor.
Arms
The detail and articulation of the arms is excellent. You can actually have the model to cross its arms over its chest, somewhat like its Master Grade counterpart. On each shoulder is a ball joint on which a set of shoulder armor is attached. When pulling back the arms, this armor limits movement by about 45 degrees (which isn’t really a problem-just pop off the armor). Stickers are included for the shoulder armor. Also, an open/close God Slasher spike is mounted on each forearm for the Hyper Mode.
Another feature is a set of four clear orange hands, two for each arm. There’s a God Finger for the right arm (the only hand that doesn’t need painting), a left hand pointing its finger, a right hand flashing the peace sign, and a left hand holding a beam sword. They could’ve thrown in a sword for the right hand. According to the pictures of the instruction manual, you can also attach the hands from the Master Grade God Gundam model. I figure this is why Bandai left out a God Finger for the left arm.
Legs
This is one feature that sets this SD apart. Consisting of an upper leg (which is one sided), a lower leg with a ball joint and the foot, each leg brings greater articulation to the model. To have an SD do a standing kick despite the weight of its whole body is quite a sight. Stickers are included for the feet.
Weapons
and Accessories
Included with this kit is a cute little Core Lander that transforms and attaches to the Gundam’s back. The front of the Core Lander has two tiny tabs that block the front fins but they are easily removed.
Conclusion
Giving us a little of everything, the SD God Gundam has a decent array of gimmicks and is amazingly detailed. But when it boils down to it, painting is necessary to make any SD model look its best. Overall, I enjoy this model so much that I ignore its flaws, if any. Definitely worth the time and money.
