Introduction

Contributor: Wagner
Date: December 6, 2006

The Zaku II was heavily mass produced near the beginning of the One Year War. However, several were converted to Commander types, sporting custom equipment or paint jobs. This one was modified by Lt. Char Aznable, tuned to be three times faster than a regular Zaku II, and sporting a commander's antenna. The first MSiA of it was made rather poorly, so I'm going to see how the second version of it handles.

Head

The head is rather unchanged from the 2nd version Zaku II, though done in
the dark salmon pink that Char's Zaku II is done in (darker than the bright
salmon pink the 1st version was molded in). It's on a unique joint that
allows it to traverse 360 degrees horizontally, and has a greater range of
vertical movement compared to a ball joint. It features black panel lining,
a black scanner range, and a pink monoeye painted on the black scanner
range.

Torso

The torso is more visually appealing, having a burgundy "vest" and a dark
gray cockpit center. It borrows from the 1st version as it's mounted on a
peg, thus allowing 360 degrees of horizontal movement. It has two
interchangeable backpacks. A regular backpack, and a Minelayer backpack. I'll review the backpacks under Weapons and Accessories.

Arms

The arms are double jointed, and hands are on ball joint wrists, which move and pose beautifully compared to the 1st version. Due to the design of the shoulders, outward movement is somewhat limited, but adequate enough to make a neat pose. The shoulders can move back and forth on a claw joint that attaches to a peg in the side of the torso. The shoulder shield and spiked shoulder are on ball joints, and are a little movable.

Legs

The knees have double joints, and are fluidly poseable. The skirt armor is
done in the same burgundy the chest is done in. The legs themselves have a dark gray kneecap, and are colored in the same dark salmon pink. The foot is uniquely done, as it has the gray sole of the foot attached to the rest of the foot by a ball joint, so that it can bend like a toe. Therefore you can make running poses with it. The skirt armor is one piece, but is segmented (not a solid piece like the version 1) which allows the legs greater poseability.

Weapons and Accessories

Heat hawk- Same heat hawk used with the Zaku II 2nd version. Mounts on the three waist racks via a peg that, unlike the 1st version, fits in the hole.

MMP-80 machine gun- The machine gun used commonly in Gundam 0080. Why it came with a 0079 release, we'll never know. It's molded in gunmetal gray, and has a removable magazine, a pink sight, and a removable grenade launcher.

120mm Zaku machine gun- This gun is molded in a gunmetal gray and features a removable drum and a swiveling handle for grasping with an open hand. Has a pink sight.

Bazooka rack- Commonly mounted on the back of the skirt armor, does its job, though slightly difficult to remove the bazooka from the rack.

Minelayer backpack- I never saw Char's Zaku II with this backpack, but it
looks more like a recon backpack, as it has an antenna and a fin, and is
rather bulky. It's molded in blue, light gray, black, and silver, with red
bars on the bottom.

Standard backpack- This release came with a skeleton of a backpack molded to the figure. This is the normal backpack that Char's Zaku II has. It's molded in various sections of dark salmon pink, burgundy, and silver paint. The verniers are highly poseable, though can't move side to side due to the vernier shields.

Hands (fists, trigger hands, heat hawk hands)- Are molded all in dark salmon pink, and serve their purpose well (Though the right heat hawk hand does a better job at holding the heat hawk for some reason).

Conclusion

This is a great remake of the Char's Zaku II MSiA. Great poseability, updated joints, a darker, more appealing color scheme. However, the lack of weapons compared to the Zaku II 2nd version is a little bit of a disappointment. However, this is still a great figure to have. I recommend this to any Gundam fan. If you can find one of these, get it. This is a great figure.
