Introduction

Contributor: White Wolf
Date: February 3, 2005

The Gelgoog... the best looking Zeon MS from the show Mobile Suit Gundam I've ever seen. This thing has a beam rifle, beam machine gun, and other cool weaponry. The box art on the Japanese Gelgoog box shows a Gelgoog hitting a GM with his shield on A Baoa Qu. Well, it's already a cool MS, so let's see if it's a cool MSiA!

Head

The head is proportioned very nicely compared to some of the model kits I've seen. The head is on via ball joint. The mono-eye is painted right in the middle and the rest is painted gray and black around the mono-eye and black on those 2 holes near the bottom of the head. It doesn't have very good articulation going up and down, but side to side, it can do a 360 degree spin.

Torso

The torso of this MS is very neat and painted well, with the dark green all over and gray near the collar. The back lower waist thrusters are painted black outlined with red inside. The middle thruster was not molded very well, but no one can tell unless you actually take the time to look. The American version features a number from 01 to 09 on the side of the upper torso but the Japanese version doesn't. The torso can turn a full 360 degrees around but not up and down.

Arms

The arms are painted gray all over... very plain. Of course this MSiA has black panel-lining but it is still plain. The arms are not double-jointed but the hands are big enough to hold all the weaponry, except for the beam naginata ("naginata" is Japanese for long-handled sword) which tends to get loose, not fall out. The hands are in the arms via pegs, not ball joints. The shoulder pads on the American version feature a team insignia on the top right shoulder which looks like two arrows on top of each other and the left shoulder features a Zeon insignia; the Japanese version, again, doesn't.

Legs

The legs are painted in gray and dark gray on the kneecaps and the bottom of the feet. The thrusters underneath the leg armor are painted same as the back lower waist thrusters, but smaller. The feet are connected with ball joints and the legs are not double-jointed.
Weapons and Accessories

Beam rifle- The beam rifle is the Gelgoog's main weapon and is painted gray with a pink scanner. The arm rest may bend when the gun is put under the arm in firing position.

Beam machine gun- This is a weapon that not many Gelgoogs used in the One Year War. It is painted in gray with a pink scanner. This gun may warp hand after extended use. May also warp trigger of gun.

Beam naginata- This is a neat design for a Zeon beam saber. This is a double-beamed sword that has straight beams and curved beams. Both sets of beams are in transparent blue and the handle is in yellow. There is also 2 holders for this sword. One goes on his back and is positioned in a diagonal manner for easy reach. The other is on hid back lower waist and is positioned horizontally.

Hands- All hands serve their purposes well. The thumbs of the Gelgoog hands may come off but can but glued back on because they are in via pegs. It has not happened to me and I have 2 Gelgoogs, it happened to someone I know. It rarely happens.

Shield- The shield is painted purple with a yellow outline and gray inside. The American version features a Zeon insignia on front but the Japanese version doesn't. It can go in the hands or be placed on back via peg.

Conclusion

This MSiA has a couple minor flaws but is still good. Until they make a second version of this MSiA, buy this. This is a must have for MSG fans and recommended for Universal Century fans also.
