This unit has always been my favorite non-monoeye mobile suit, ranging from its sleek design to its paint scheme. Everything about this mobile suit was screaming "awesome." But Bandai did a sub par job on the first two versions of this MSiA. And we all know EMSiA are prided on being top-of-the-line construction. So let's see how this figure ranks.
Head
The head has an amazing range of motion. It's mounted on a conical neck with a ball joint which then plugs into another ball joint. It's molded well, and in proportion with the suit. This release came with an extra head that has the red eyes painted in to recreate that moment in the animation.
What can I say? This MSiA is looking good already.
Torso
The upper torso itself is rather similar to most EMSiA, with three pieces
connected by ball joints. It's molded in navy blue with gold plates. Despite
being three pieces, the torso is solid and doesn't flop around. The sides of the skirt armor are put on ball joints, giving this figure a wider range of
poseability. The back skirt armor has two pieces with rounded holes to put the beam saber handles in.
The backpack is large, and thick. It almost makes this figure top heavy, but Bandai managed to avoid that. It's molded in navy blue with red tubes. The binders are connected with ball joints that are on gray rods coming from the sides of the cockpit. The bottom halves of the wings are movable up and down only.
Arms
The arms are much better designed. The shoulder armor moves in a fashion similar to the EMSiA RX-78-2 Gundam, but don't rotate and flip around, instead, they have a wide range of movement up and down, connected to a ball joint which is connected to a piece that slides over like older shoulder armors. Arms are double jointed, and the hands connect via small ball jointed wrists that supply adequate movement.. The hands that come with this suit are thick and blocky, like a lot of the Zeta Gundam hands are. Rotation at the bicep region also comes with the arms opens more possibilities for poses and is durable.
Legs
These legs are impressive. They rotate a full 360 degrees at the upper thigh (where they connect to the pegs with ball joints for the legs) And due to the skirt armor on the sides being ball jointed, this suit can do the
splits. The pieces on the front of the calves can be moved up and down about 5 or 10 degrees, and the ankles can move in all sorts of ways. The ankles are what makes this suit shine for poseability. The only problem is that the ankles are a tad bit tiny, so you MIGHT have minor problems keeping a pose. No big problem though.
Weapons
and Accessories
Beam rifle- Sized to scale with the Hyaku Shiki this time. Molded in black
with a gold tube and removable energy pack. Fits nicely in the trigger hand.
Clay bazooka- Molded in black, features a swiveling gray piece which is
used to mount the bazooka on the backpack when not in use. Has a removable clip.
Beam sabers- This figure came with two flavors of beam saber, a pink blade, and a yellow blade. Blades are detachable, and the handles can be stored on the back waist armor.
"Red eyes" head - This head can be placed in the spot where the normal head is to recreate a scene from the animation.
Damage parts (damaged right arm and right leg)- These were thrown in so you can recreate the damage that the Hyaku Shiki receives in the animation. Awesome.
"Knuckle gun - This is the finger that Char uses as a cement launcher to
seal up holes in colonies, etc.
Conclusion
This figure is made of GOLD...well, not literally, but almost. This is a
relatively new release, so if you find one, make sure to get it before
they're all off the shelves! It's an all around solid figure, and one of the few to have ball jointed skirt armor (save for the Dom/Rick Dom and The O).
Plus, it should be a favorite for those who bought the first Hyaku Shiki and
were seriously disappointed with the first generation construction. This is good for play and display. Seriously, stop reading this and buy one.
