Lunar 2: Preorder Blues

Lunar 2: Eternal Blue is finally available for preorder! If you're a Working Designs fan, you know the routine. Start the 12-month countdown now, just like you did with Lunar. The original was delayed for over a year simply because mounds of ridiculous promotional stuff had to be added, including a "making of" CD which features an interview with CEO Victor Ireland.

Mr. Ireland must have a lot of free time to burn. If you count up all his posts on deja, you'll get a number close to 1430. He gives advice on fascinating topics such as how to remove stickers from your software (use a blow-dryer) and what to stuff a pizza crust with (cheese, spinach, and mild sausage).

If you want to see what Mr. Ireland has been working on for Lunar 2, when he finds the time, its pretty much the same grab bag of stuff as the original. There is one notable exception, a "Ghaleon punching puppet", included free with a $20 deposit. It is exactly what it sounds like, a puppet of Ghaleon, "two years in the making", that punches when you press a button. What an RPG fan could possibly want with this is anyone's guess. The most baffling thing is that it's Ghaleon from the original Lunar. It has absolutely nothing to do with Lunar 2!

True, it may be nice to have items like this when you first get the game. But about two days after you beat it, you'll just wish the release date had been more of a priority than the extras. At least if people take advantage of the Lunar 2 preorder now, they'll have a puppet to take their frustrations out on until the game is released in 2001.
