Green Lantern

Alan Burnett, Warner Bros. Animation

Interview by Tanya Rausch

April 1, 2011

Aside from the live action Green Lantern movie panel, the most exciting event at WonderCon was the sneak preview screening of Green Lantern: Emerald Knights. I was lucky to get the opportunity to speak to one of the writers, Alan Burnett.

Tanya: What is your role at Warner Bros. Animation?

Alan: I supervise the writing for direct to video productions, such as Emerald Knights.

Tanya: How long have you been in the industry

Alan: I've been in animation for about thirty years. I got my start at Hanna-Barbera with The Smurfs. Around that time, I also worked on the last season of Super Friends.

Tanya: For those who are not familiar, what are the Green Lantern Corps?

Alan: They are like intergalactic cops, who are each in charge of a precinct in the universe.

Tanya: What part of Emerald Knights were you involved with?

Alan: I wrote the bookends and connecting material with Todd Casey. We wanted to give the guys who are writing the comics a chance to tell one in animation.

Tanya: Is it hard to write the connecting material for other stories?

Alan: It is tough, you don't know if it is all going to work out until it is finally put together. I was dealing with writers all over the country, in Los Angeles and New York.

Tanya: Thanks so much for taking time to speak with us.

Alan: Thank you!
