Before the Apsaras III launches, Ginias looks at it with the eyes of a madman. Aina asks him what happened to the scientists, and he says they are all drunk somewhere. After the Apsaras III launches, Shiro announces that he is leaving the service. Michel tells him he’ll be shot for deserting, and Shiro says he is going to stop Aina. Eledore thinks that he is a lovesick idiot for quitting the service. Karen remembers Ryer ordering her to execute Shiro if he deserts, and she fires her Gundam‘s vulcans at Shiro’s Ez8. He apologizes for dragging everyone into the battle, and she says every man she has ever known always leaves her in the end. As Shiro walks away, Karen states that he is the worst soldier she has ever met. Aina calls Ryer and says she wants a cease fire so the wounded soldiers can escape on the Kerguelen. Ginias tells her to shoot the Big Tray, but she says the Jet Core Booster IIs would still be able to pick off the Kerguelen. Ryer refuses to accept any sort of peace treaty at gunpoint, and Aina gets out of the cockpit as a show of faith. As Karen and Sanders move into position, she sees that Aina is just as naïve about war as Shiro is. Ryer agrees to a temporary cease fire and orders the GM Snipers to move into position. Kojima objects, and Ryer says he never agreed to any indefinite cease fire. The countdown ends, and the Kerguelen launches from the mountain. The Gouf Flight Types leave and board the ship. Ginias takes over Aina’s controls and fires the Apsaras III’s cannons, destroying GM Ground Types from the 02nd and 03rd M.S. Teams. Ryer orders the GM Sniper to fire on the Kerguelen, and the ship is destroyed. Aina blames Ginias for causing their deaths, and he says the EFF is untrustworthy. In anger, Aina gets back inside the cockpit of the Apsaras III and targets the Big Tray. Just as she is about to fire, she sees the Ez8 approach and knows that Shiro is inside.
The blast from the Apsaras III goes over the Big Tray and destroys the mountain behind it. Ryer wonders what sort of game Aina is playing. Ginias thinks that Aina is a fool for trusting the EFF, and she says she gave up on his dream long ago. He sees her looking at the Ez8 and says love is for fools. He says it is a weakness that caused their mother to leave them, and Aina sees that is why he built the Apsaras as iron womb for himself. Aina says they can surrender together and let go of their pain. Ginias shoots Aina, and Shiro catches her with the Ez8 as she falls the air. Shiro thinks Aina is dead, and he can’t believe Ginias would kill his own sister. Ginias says it is Shiro’s fault she threw her life away, and he prepares to fire the Apsaras III’s cannon at Shiro. Aina wakes up and tells Shiro to live, and the GM Sniper fires at the Apsaras III and disables it. Kojima orders the 08th M.S. Team to escort the Ez8 back to base, and Ryer says he wants Karen to execute Shiro. He says Shiro deserted and has no intention to follow orders now. Kojima says many good people have already died, and Ryer thinks one more soldier won’t make a difference. Kojima orders the 08th M.S. Team to arrest Shiro and bring him back alive. Aina and Shiro wake up, and his right arm is broken. Aina says Ginias won’t give up, and she gets into the Ez8 with Shiro to stop Ginias. Kojima and the 08th M.S. Team hurry to get to Shiro before the GM Sniper does. Shiro attacks the Apsaras III with his beam saber, but the GM Sniper fires at him and blows off half of the Ez8’s torso. Ginias regains control and destroys the GM Sniper. As the Apsaras III fires, Shiro slams the Ez8 into it. The blast destroys most of the Ez8 and the Big Tray. The Apsaras and Ez8 fall off the side of the mountain and explode. The members of the 08th M.S. Team hurry up the mountain to find Shiro, but their search is fruitless. Michel notes in a letter to B.B. that the war ended and they never found Shiro, but he thinks Shiro is alive. Elsewhere, a one-legged Shiro and Aina walk together through a mine.
Talk about one hell of a finale. Though this isn’t the end of the series, it is the end of the main story. The One Year War may be over now, but we still don’t know what happened to Shiro, Aina, or Ginias. Aina and Shiro obviously survived, but Shiro seems to have lost a leg. There’s not as much action here as there was in part one, but it’s a good balance of drama. I thought Ryer was bad enough already, but here he really shows his true nature. By his own words, soldiers don’t really matter to him. I wonder why he has such a desire to kill Shiro. Ginias has quite obviously become a madman, and we get a slight insight into that with the mention of his mother. It would have made his character more sympathetic if this had been explained earlier instead of as a last minute revelation. Well, there’s still one episode left, but it’s not anything like what has been seen up until now.
