The AGE-1AJ/2 Gundam AGE-1 02 Assault Jacket was built to help test the AGE-1AJ Gundam AGE-1 Assault Jacket and was assembled from Unit 1’s spare parts. When Unit 1 was built, the AGE Builder followed the AGE System’s proposal and created a large amount of spare parts. The Earth Federation Forces had doubts about the results of the AGE System and took custody of these parts. Their plan was that after conducting multiple tests using Unit 1, the data gathered would be used to modify the spare parts and create a “perfect” Unit 2. However, Unit 1 produced shocking results during the tests and was what one could call perfect. This then caused the technicians to hesitate if they should follow the original plan. In the end, the spare parts were sent to the military’s research and development department for research purposes.

The sudden proposal to build Unit 2 came around the same time as a formal review was being conducted regarding the manufacture of a mass production version of the AGE-1 Gundam AGE-1 Normal. The Gundam AGE-1’s technologies had been successful applied on existing mobile suits numerous times, but the analysis of the AGE System was lagging, and this caused the mass production plan to stagnate. The plan, now known as the “New AGE project,” received a much needed boost when Flit Asuno formally joined the R&D department and then expanded to the construction of Unit 2. The military claimed that the advancement was due to the “magic of the Asuno family,” but in reality it was due to the official participation of numerous well known mobile suit workshops, including the Madorna Workshop, under Flit’s name. The AGE-1 02 Assault Jacket could be thought of as a model for later mass production RGE-G1100 Adele.
