At the conclusion of the One Year War in UC 0080, the Republic of Zeon was restored following the dissolution of the Principality. The Republic was allowed to maintain its own defense force, which included a modified version of the Principality’s Chibe class heavy cruiser. The upgraded design featured a longer mobile suit launch catapult, new auxiliary engine units and a new version of the mega particle cannon. During the Gryps War in UC 0087, the Republic sided with the Titans over the Axis Zeon and lent some ships as support.
