The mobile cruiser Chimaira was a refit Zanzibar class vessel that served as the mothership of the Chimaira Corps, an ace mobile suit test team assigned to A Baoa Qu. In September UC 0079, the Chimaira arrived at Side 3’s 3rd Dock for refitting. Over the next three weeks, a cargo bay unit was attached to the ship’s rear section to increase its mobile suit capacity. A mobile suit launch catapult extended outward from the cargo bay under the ship’s main hull. In December UC 0079, the Chimaira Corps conducted tests of multiple Gelgoog models, including the prototype YMS-14 (later redesignated as MS-14S) and others. By the end of the One Year War, three additional Zanzibar class ships had undergone the same refit as the Chimaira. The Chimaira went missing after the end of the war, but remained active until at least UC 0090.
