At the Chinese consulate, the newly liberated Black Knights celebrate by casting off their prison garb. Kallen asks about the Vincent, and C.C. explains it was moved along Li’s route. She then asks if the pilot is the same as from the Babel Tower incident, and Lelouch answers that although he has to account for Urabe’s death, he has to keep the pilot’s information classified for now. Kallen is bothered about Lelouch keeping secrets, and C.C. asks him what he’s going to do about Zero’s identity. Lelouch decides to leave things as they are, with Kallen as the head of his bodyguards. Kallen tells Tohdoh about Urabe’s death, and Lelouch appears as Zero to address the Black Knights. Chiba steps forward and thanks Lelouch for saving them, but adds that it wouldn’t have been necessary had he not betrayed them earlier. Ohgi asks what happened, and Lelouch simply says that it was for the purpose of defeating Britannia. Tohdoh steps forward and notes that sometimes operational details must be kept secret. He says they need Zero’s abilities, and Ohgi steps forward to support Lelouch, saying they are the hope for all Areas. Tamaki begins chanting Zero’s name, and the rest of the Black Knights join him. At school, Lelouch and the other students are shocked by Suzaku’s sudden return to Ashford. Suzaku sits down next to Lelouch, and Lelouch thinks about how Suzaku was his first true friend. Lelouch plays dumb when he and Rivalz, Shirley and Milly greet Suzaku. Lelouch thinks to himself that things will go well if Rolo doesn’t do anything stupid. Shirley explains that after the Black Rebellion, most of the students returned to the Britannian homeland. Rivalz and the others asks Suzaku about Zero’s true identity, but Suzaku says it’s classified information. The cat Arthur then bites Suzaku’s fingers. Later, Suzaku meets with Rolo and Viletta to discuss their mission with Lelouch. They don’t think Lelouch has regained his memories, but Suzaku wants to investigate further. Lelouch uses Geass on a teacher to overlook all irregularities with him and Rolo. Rolo asks Lelouch if he should kill Suzaku, but Lelouch tells him to stop acting strangely. At the government building, two officials review the spate of attacks following Zero’s resurgence. Suddenly, the building rocks from an attack by Gino’s transforming Knightmare Tristan. Gino comments on his disappointment with the building’s defenses and attacks several Sutherlands and Gloucesters, disabling them easily. Suzaku then steps in to stop the fight, and Gino tells Suzaku that the Lancelot is on the way. Anya then lands her Mordred nearby, and Suzaku thinks to himself that he’ll make everything clear with Lelouch at the welcoming party.
Later, Milly forces Suzaku to introduce himself at the welcoming party. Rolo asks Lelouch about the party, and Lelouch explains that Milly goes crazy with events. Rolo then tells Lelouch about his Geass’ weakness. Gino and Anya walk around the festival and visit several booths. Lelouch gives out orders over the phone to contact Diethard, and he’s shocked when he sees C.C. walking around in a school uniform. She walks up to Rivalz and asks him for a flier about the world’s largest pizza. Lelouch runs over to her and covers her head with a paper bag. On stage, Viletta thinks to herself that she’s going to kill Shirley for tricking her into wearing a swimsuit. Suzaku talks to Milly about Kallen and mentions that Nina is doing well with her scientific research. Milly asks if Lloyd Asplund said anything about her, but Suzaku answers that he didn’t. Arthur then steals Euphemia’s feather pen, so Suzaku and Milly chase after him, while Gino reads the clipboard about making a pizza with a Knightmare. C.C. tells Lelouch that V.V. was the one who gave Charles his power and told Suzaku about Geass. Lelouch asks if Suzaku has been given Geass as well, but C.C. doesn’t think so. Lelouch hears Shirley calling for him, so he pushes C.C. into the giant tomato container and closes it. Shirley tells him that Viletta disappeared, so she needs some help. Shirley thinks this might be her chance, but suddenly Kallen appears dressed as a cartoon animal and tells Lelouch that she’s come for C.C. Shirley pulls him from under costume’s head and fights with Kallen. Suzaku and Milly appear in their search for Arthur, and C.C. begins to kick the container’s wall. Gino then arrives in the compact frame MR1 and grabs the tomato container. Gino speeds off with the container and is chased by Lelouch and the others, with Arthur running out in front. Gino begins shaking the container, and everyone else outruns Lelouch on their way to the stage. Suzaku grabs Arthur, and Lelouch uses Geass on a student to order him to fire pink gas as Gino spills the tomatoes and C.C. out. Viletta runs into Kallen and knocks over her costume’s head. On the rooftop, Kallen tells Lelouch that she remembers seeing Viletta with Ohgi at the last festival. Later, Rolo holds Viletta at gunpoint, and Lelouch threatens to expose her as a mole for the Black Knights because of her connection to Ohgi. Lelouch then gives Viletta a bottle of wine for her birthday. Later, Lelouch speaks to Li over the phone and asks to speak to the Eunuch General. As everyone dances, Suzaku joins Lelouch on a rooftop and tells him that he intends to become the Knight of One, because it would allow him to choose Area 11 as his personal Area. He then makes a phone call and gives the phone to Lelouch so he can speak to the new Governor-General. Lelouch takes the phone and is shocked to hear Nunnally’s voice.
Suzaku makes his return to Japan, but he’s not alone, as he’s accompanied by Gino and Anya. Lelouch is walking a fine line now that he’s got Suzaku watching him too, but he’s lucky in that he’s using Rolo to help him. We do learn some new things here, including that V.V. gave Charles his Geass power, which explains his presence on the Avalon in season 1. We also see what Suzaku’s ambition is – to become the Knight of One and take control of Area 11. Milly uses Suzaku’s return as an excuse to have another festival with a giant pizza, and some more hijinks ensue. While it was amusing, I’m not sure we needed another chase scene at school involving a cat where Lelouch’s identity is almost exposed. With this cliffhanger, we get to see the devious trap that Suzaku has laid for Lelouch – if Lelouch speaks to Nunnally in a familiar manner, then it’s obvious he has regained his memories as Zero. For someone like Suzaku, it’s a pretty skillful trap, if not utterly devious, given that he’s using Nunnally as part of this trap.
