Code Geass R2 Turn 6: Operation Pacific Ocean Ambush

0
Summary

Suzaku thinks to himself that if Lelouch hasn’t really recovered his memories, he shouldn’t know who Nunnally is. Rolo appears behind Suzaku and uses Geass to freeze his mind, giving Lelouch 5 seconds to talk. Lelouch quickly tells Nunnally that he has to act like a stranger, so he wants her to play along. He tells her that he loves her and that he’ll come for her soon. As Suzaku’s mind unfreezes, Lelouch tells Nunnally that she has the wrong person. Suzaku assumes that Lelouch doesn’t have his memories and he apologizes to Nunnally. At the California Base, Guilford tells General Upson that he has to be careful while transporting Nunnally to Area 11 because Zero will try something. Upson dismisses Guilford’s concerns and says that the current Zero is just an impostor. Lloyd arrives with Cecile Croomy and says he was late because of Lancelot‘s tuning. Inside a Logres class flying fortress, Nunnally wonders if Suzaku was lying to her and what could’ve happened between him and Lelouch. At the Chinese capital of Luo Yang, a eunuch asks Kaguya what the situation is in Area 11, but she doesn’t know. Empress Tianzi wonders what is happening in the outside world since she has never left the Forbidden City, and Kaguya says she’ll look since she has to leave. Tianzi is sad because she finally made a friend, but Kaguya says her husband is waiting for her. C.C. reports to to Lelouch that they got supplies, but there’s no way back to the Chinese consulate. C.C. asks Lelouch if he’s going to fight Nunnally and he responds that at this rate, she’ll just become a political tool again. C.C. wonders if she’ll be used as a pawn and discarded, and Lelouch tells her that Zero and the Black Knights exist for Nunnally’s sake. He vows that he’ll destroy Britannia to create a peaceful world for Nunnally. He asks C.C. about V.V., and she explains that she doesn’t know where he is, but he was Charles’ first ally. At the Sword of Akasha, V.V. asks Charles why he didn’t tell Nunnally about Lelouch and Geass, and he answers that it wasn’t necessary. Outside the Chinese consulate, Li tells Suzaku, Gino and Anya that the Black Knights have left. Suzaku asks if Zero is with them, and Li explains that they left through the basement. The Black Knights then appear in the air over the Pacific Ocean to attack the fleet transporting Nunnally. The Black Knights deploy smoke so that their Knightmares can land onto the Logres and its Caerleon escort ships and open fire. Upson panics because reinforcements from Tokyo are an hour away. Lelouch enters the Logres and uses Geass to order soldiers to kill themselves. Shogo Asahina uses his slash harkens to attack a hovercraft, and he’s joined by Ryoga Senba. Chiba comes under fire from a series of Float-equipped Knightmares led by Guilford’s Vincent Commander Type. Guilford moves in close to attack Kallen, and Upson is upset because he doesn’t want Guilford to get credit. Lelouch unlocks a door and finds Nunnally in a garden.

Several soldiers spot Lelouch on the surveillance cameras, but a Geassed soldier kills them. Nunnally senses Lelouch’s presence and asks “Zero” if he’s come to kill her the same way he did Clovis and Euphemia. She asks for a moment and tells Lelouch that he’s wrong. Kallen’s Guren destroys a Gloucester, and Gino’s Tristan attacks Asahina, forcing him to abandon his Gekka. A damaged Caerleon nearly crashes into the Logres, but Anya destroys it with the Mordred‘s hadron cannons. Suzaku flies by in an airplane, and Lloyd informs him that the Lancelot is ready. Upson gets into a gun turret and opens fire on the ship’s engine in an attempt to shoot Tohdoh, but he misses. Tohdoh returns fire and kills Upson. In the garden, Lelouch tells Nunnally that Britannia is wrong because Charles believes in absolute power. He tells Nunnally that she’s just being used, and she tells him she volunteered for the job. Tohdoh and Ryoga Senba travel through one of the ship’s outer corridors, and Gino jumps in and kills Senba. Tohdoh tries to attack Gino, but Guilford flies in and knocks off Tohdoh’s right arm. Nunnally tells Lelouch that she thinks the world can be changed in a more peaceful manner, so she intends to revive Euphemia’s Specially Administrated Zone of Japan. She asks Lelouch to join her, and he’s taken aback in shock. On the Avalon, Suzaku launches in the hadron cannon-equipped Lancelot Conquista, and Cecile tells him he has to rescue Nunnally before the Logres crashes into the ocean. Suzaku attacks Kallen, but she blocks with her radiation wave. He then attacks again with the hadron cannon and knocks Kallen off the ship. Anya attacks Chiba, forcing her to eject from her Gekka. As the Guren free falls, Kallen is unable to eject. The Black Knights submarine surfaces, and Rakshata tells Kallen she’s brought something. A flight unit launches and attaches to the Guren, followed by a new right arm with an enhanced radiation wave unit. The Guren Flight flies back up to the Logres and uses long-range radiation wave attack on Guilford, and he ejects from his Vincent just before it explodes. Suzaku moves in to rescue Nunnally while Gino and Anya attack Kallen. Kallen jumps onto the Mordred and uses a wide dispersal attack to cripple the Mordred and Tristan. Kallen then fires a Gefjun net at Suzaku, and although he has a countermeasure, it slows him down. Cecile tells Suzaku to hurry because he only has 45 seconds left. Suzaku generates a shield and smashes into the ship. Lelouch wonders what he should do, because he doesn’t want to force Nunnally away against her will. Suzaku smashes into the garden and grabs Nunnally, and Lelouch is blown away by the decompression. As the ship crashes and explodes, Lelouch is ejected into the air, but Kallen catches him.

Commentary

I was wondering how Lelouch would get out of the trap Suzaku sprung on him, and as we see, he succeeds only because of Rolo’s assistance. That manages to work well enough to trick Suzaku, so that later on he can’t tell if Zero is Lelouch. Now that the Black Knights have been reunited, it’s good to see them go on the offensive. Unfortunately, the remaining members of the Holy Swords lose their Gekkas, as well as old man Senba. The entire battle on top of airships sequence reminded me of a battle from the original Gundam series, and Kallen’s descent and life-saving upgrade was a bit reminiscent of Gundam SEED DESTINY. If what Suzaku did in episode 5 wasn’t bad enough, he one ups that here by snatching Nunnally away just as Lelouch has found her. Unfortunately, Nunnally’s own intentions put him in a bind. Although he knows that Euphemia was sincere about the SAZ, after the mess that he created, no one in the Black Knights would ever approve of supporting the SAZ or Britannian royalty again.
