The Daedalus was a semi-submersible assault landing ship used by the U.N. Navy and stationed at South Ataria Island. The ship’s bow incorporated a collapsible ramp that was used to load and deploy its Destroid forces. At the start of Space War I in February 2009, the Macross conducted a risky fold operation within Earth’s atmosphere to evade the Zentradi. However, instead of appearing behind the Moon, the ship emerged near Pluto. Due to the fold occurring within the atmosphere, the Macross’ fold bubble also encompassed all of South Ataria Island and the surrounding ocean, including the Daedalus and the aircraft carrier Prometheus. The two vessels were then adapted for space use and permanently docked with the Macross, serving as the ship’s “arms” in its humanoid attack mode. Bridge officer Misa Hayase used the “arm” concept in conceiving the Daedalus Attack, wherein the ship’s pinpoint barrier was focused on the bow of the Daedalus, allowing it to forcibly punch through the hull of an enemy ship. The bow then opened to allow the Destroids to unleash a barrage of missiles and destroy the enemy ship from within. Although initially successful, the attack later backfired when the Zentradi used it as an opportunity to sneak an invasion force onto the Macross. The Daedalus was destroyed during the Defensive Battle of Macross City in January 2012 when Kamjin Kravshera performed a suicide attack and crashed a Zentradi Gun Destroyer into the Macross. Afterward, the Macross was extensively refit and docked with two ARMD carriers as its new “arms.”
