Technical and Historical Notes

The Drake class was one of two main battleship types used by the Earth Alliance during the Bloody Valentine War with ZAFT. These lightly armed vessels were equipped with two vulcan cannons and several torpedo and missile launchers. Due to its small size, Drake class ships did not feature interior hangars for the TS-MA2 Moebius mobile armor. Instead, the Moebius units were strapped to the outer hull. Later on in the war, this same limitation required that the Alliance’s first mass production mobile suit, the GAT-01 Strike Dagger, be stored in the same manner. Because of its light armament, the Drake class was a soft target that could easily be destroyed by a single ZAFT mobile suit. After the war, the Alliance refitted the Drake class with external mobile suit launch decks.
