Dunbine Ep. 2: Given’s Mansion

0
Summary

Shou has a nightmare about his experiences coming to Byston Well. He hears a voice telling him he can pilot the Dunbine. After waking up Shou walks out onto the balcony and overhears a conversation in the next room between Todd and Drake’s daughter, Riml. Riml wants Todd to leave since the coming of him and Shou will accelerate Drake’s plans to conquer Byston Well. Todd has no interest in hearing what she has to say. Shou chases after Riml when she leaves but she is upset after her conversation with Todd and won’t have anything to do with him, saying she’ll rescue Silkie and return them all to Upper Earth without their help. As Riml leaves she is greeted by Chum. Meanwhile, Drake shows Bern a message from Roman Given, head of House Given asking for a meeting. Drake decides to have Bern meet him with the ulterior motive of scouting the enemy’s territory while he’s there. Later Shou and Todd are officially made troops in Drake’s army. The other soldiers, upset at them at first are approving after a test. Shou heads out with the troops on his motorcycle as they leave the castle. On the way there Shou asks Bern about the fairies he’s seen around. Bern tells him they’re the Mi Ferario, the lowest of the Ferario, not a decent one among them. The soldiers are soon met by the House Given’s escorts, which include Nie, Marvel and Keen Kiss.

Nie and the others lead Drake’s troops through a town and to Given’s mansion. Chum shows up and is upset that Shou is there. Bern meets with Roman Given and questions him about the earlier attack on Drake’s exhibition. Nie says its because they hear rumors that Drake will soon be attacking the land of Mi. Roman offers Bern a lot of money if he and his Aura Battlers will defect from Drake and join him. Seeing Chum flying around, one of Drake’s soldiers notices the Mi Ferario Tsuo spying on the meeting. He enters the room and informs Bern of that. Bern asks Roman for a night to think about things. Upon leaving the mansion Bern plans on attacking and gets help from Nigu Rou, who is one of the Garou Ran (a lower class of people on Byston Well), who contacts their remaining forces. Bern meets up with another one of Drake’s officers, Mizeru on their Aura Ship Bull Beggar. Their Aura Battler forces, made up of Bern’s Drumlo, and Todd and Shou’s Dunbines head out. Back at Given’s mansion, Roman sends his wife Carlo out along with Tsuo in a carriage to inform the King of Ah, Furaon Elf, about Drake. Drake’s forces quickly meet up with the carriage and Bern blows it up, killing them. They then attack the mansion, which has little defense against them until a Fou, piloted by Nie and Dana O’Shee, piloted by Marvel arrive and give Todd a hard time. Bern fights Marvel while Shou, who was reluctant to attack her damages Nie’s Fou, which retreats. After the battle Bern reluctantly believes Shou when he says his missiles weren’t working properly. Mizeru informs Bern that while Todd was able to escape, what was left of his Dunbine fell into enemy forces.

Commentary

Another good episode where we get to learn a little more about the House Given, a rival House of Drake’s in Ah. With Todd and Shou on his side Drake’s quickly putting into action his plans to expand his small empire. We realize just how vicious Bern can be as he kills Nie’s mother without a second thought. Shou seems quite impressed with Marvel Frozen and is reluctant in attacking her in battle. Seems like he’ll probably defect from Drake soon. Todd on the other hand continues to perform quite poor in battle and ends up losing his Dunbine. For someone from Upper Earth, he sure isn’t doing that well as an Aura Battler.
