Dunbine Ep. 4: Riml’s Hardships

0
Summary

Riml wanders through the woods, which is filled with a number of bizarre blood sucking creatures. She is attacked by one of them, but manages to escape. Shou and Marvel are about to head out after Riml when they are attacked by more of those same creatures. Luckily they are able to fend them off and Shou flies off holding both Marvel and the damaged Dana O’Shee. Shou is amazed at how well Marvel and everyone else speaks Japanese but she reveals to him that she’s speaking English and it must be some sort of telepathy that enables them to understand each other. At Laas Wau, Drake beats Garalia for not being able to recover Riml and orders Bern to head out as well to rescue her. Garalia tries to get an Aura Battler from Zet to prove herself as good as Bern, but he and Shot, who soon arrives both refuse to give her one. Meanwhile in the woods Nie returns to the Zelana and Shou and Marvel show up soon afterwards. Nie has a hard time believing what Shou says about Riml, but decides to head out anyway on a Pigsy. Hon Wan shows up to give him his father’s message. Nie says he’ll meet him in two days in the Forest of the Moon. Drake’s forces, including Garalia, search for Riml and when Bern sees her from the sky in his Drumlo, he lands to ask her why she’s headed out without permission. After talking with her he decides to let her use a Barou while searching for Riml. At that time Riml makes a shelter out of leaves to hide in.

Back at Laas Wau Drake, Shot and Louser discuss the search. Both Louser and Shot think Drake is too soft on her. Bern wonders why Riml escaped the castle. He desires to obtain more power by marrying her, something Garalia finds despicable. As Drake’s forces search, Nie and the others do the same, with Shou searching in the air in his Dunbine. Chum tells him she sees Riml’s Aura Light and leads them through the woods towards it. Bern and Garalia happen to come across her at the same time and Shou battles Bern in their Aura Battlers. Nie and the others run into Drake’s soldiers in the woods and they battle as well. As Bern and Shou continue to fight in the woods, Riml finds Nie and tries to give him Aura Battler plans she smuggled out of the castle. Garalia blows up the ledge she’s standing on however and Bern is able to take off with her. Nie won’t let Shou fire at the Drumlo since he has Riml with him. Everyone is depressed they were unable to save her, Nie especially. Bern makes his way back to Laas Wau in his Drumlo with Riml.

Commentary

This episode is somewhat of a downer after the first three, being more of a filler episode with Riml lost in the woods. It does however feature Shou allying with Nie so its not a total waste. For a hero Nie is quite a negative person, while Marvel and the others are pretty trusting of Shou once he joins them, Nie is very skeptical. Shou’s attempt at rescuing Riml from Laas Wau has failed this time, but don’t worry, there will be plenty more attempts to save her as the series goes on…
