Dunbine Ep. 6: Tragedy at the Forest of the Moon

Summary

The Zelana heads through the forest, low to the ground in order to avoid the enemy. Meanwhile Roman Given and his colleagues are chased by Nigu Rou and other Garou Rans. The enemy succeeds in blowing up an entire carriage filled with supplies before they reach the Labyrinth Valley. Nigu Rou’s forces split up in order to find them. Up on the Zelana Shou is shocked to find out that all their spare supplies have run out. Shou wonders why the Aura Road keeps opening, bringing so many people from Upper Earth to Byston Well. Marvel thinks its a bad omen of things to come. Shou likes Marvel, but she has her eyes set on Nie. Shou hopes that’s something that’ll change eventually. Marvel points out a gathering of fish in the sky to Shou that looks like the moon. Marvel goes to the bridge to see Nie, who is more concerned with supplies than rescuing Riml for the time being. Elsewhere Drake’s forces prepare for the upcoming invasion of the land of Mi. Zet seems upset with Todd since Shou’s able to bring out the full potential of his Aura Battler yet Todd isn’t. Nigu Rou arrives to inform Bern of Roman’s whereabouts. He allows Garalia and Todd to head out after them. On the Zelana, Chum calls out the spirits of the forest to provide them with a beacon. This alerts Hon Wan, who is with the mechanic Doruboru to the Zelana‘s location. At that time Garalia and Todd head out on the Barau and Drumlo respectively. Shou heads out with Hon Wan on a Shoot to meet up with Roman. Meanwhile another one of Roman’s carriages is destroyed as they make their way through the Labyrinth valley.

Roman’s carriages are stopped by Nigu Rou’s troops. Luckily for them, Shou arrives and is able to drive away their forces. Shou meets with Roman, who tells him to go tell Nie he’s alright. Shou regrets not going in the Dunbine and takes off in it once he returns to the Zelana, which soon follows him. Just as Roman’s remaining carriage approaches the Forest of the Moon, Todd and Garalia catch up to him. Garalia wants to capture him and the supplies while Todd thinks it would be best to just kill him. Todd attacks the carriage but is stopped by Shou in the Dunbine just in time. Unfortunately the carriage crashes right afterwards and Garalia, noticing it, captures Roman in her Barau’s arm. Marvel and Nie, knowing that she’s taken a hostage hesitate in attacking her. Shou leaves his fight with Todd and tries to save him, but Todd, shooting wildly ends up hitting the Barau by accident and Roman falls out of the Barau’s hands. Shou tries to save him, but Todd shoots the Dunbine, preventing him from doing so. Shou, angry at what’s happened severely damages the Drumlo and Todd escapes with Garalia. Roman tells Nie that Drake seeks to attack the Land of Mi and dies. Shou is upset with himself for not being able to save him.

Commentary

Things just keep getting worse and worse for our heroes as Nie’s father is killed by Todd. In two episodes the Zelana‘s lost one of their pilots and now their benefactor as well. Todd, who is already a rather unlikable character certainly doesn’t help his cause here, and I’m sure Bern and Zet won’t be too happy to discover that he’s lost yet another Aura Battler. On the bright side looks like Nie’s got his mind off Riml for now after whining about rescuing her for the last few episodes. It really is a mystery to me that Marvel likes him. Shou seems to me like a much better fit.
