Dunbine Ep. 8: Laas Wau Once Again

0
Summary

Aboard the Zelana, Shou expresses his desire to return to Upper Earth and argues with Nie and Marvel. At Laas Wau, Bern tells Zet of adjustments he needs made to the Virunvee. Garalia returns with the Bull Beggar and gives Drake the written permission from the King to attack the Land of Mi. Drake’s forces prepare to head out. Garalia is upset because her orders are to stay with Todd and defend the castle. On the Zelana, Keen is upset because of her father joining Drake. Shou is also upset with Nie for them heading to Mi instead of trying to rescue Silkie from Laas Wau. Shou demands to be let off the ship so he can go do that. He asks Marvel and the others to come with him, but they stay aboard. With wanted posters of him and the others around, Shou has to be careful. He runs into both Hon Wan and Torou, who he once again tricks into being quiet with promises to tell him stories of Byston Well. Seeing Drake’s forces leave, Shou tells Hon Wan to inform Nie that he will head to Laas Wau and rescue both Riml and Silkie while the majority of Drake’s forces are gone.

Todd and Garalia get into a fight but are stopped by Shot. Garalia is upset that she is forced to defend the castle instead of Kibitsu Kiss. Louser tells Riml that there is a reward for Nie’s capture, upsetting her. At the Zelana, Nie reluctantly decides to head back to Laas Wau. Shou manages to find his motorcycle in the woods in the possession of a few soldiers and beats them up. He uses the motorcycle to ride into the castle and the Zelana soon arrives. Keen brings him back to the Zelana so he can get into the Dunbine. Todd and Garalia head out in their Aura Battlers to defend the castle. Shou fights Todd, whom he’s finding stronger than ever. The Zelana descends into Laas Wau and Nie heads out and rescues Riml. Garalia and Todd chase after him so Nie pushes Riml into the Dunbine’s hands, which is a safer place. While Nie battles Garalia, Shou heads to Silkie’s watery prison and takes her out. Louser captures Riml and threatens to kill her if Shou doesn’t return Silkie. She then tells him to leave or she’ll stab her in the eye. After they leave Louser implies to Riml that she wasn’t serious. On the Zelana Nie gets upset because Shou wasn’t able to rescue either Silkie or Riml. Shou wonders what kind of world he’s in where a mother would threaten to kill her child.

Commentary

It’s rather frustrating to see yet another attempt to rescue Riml after that being the plot of the last episode. In fighting is rampant among our heroes, which is not surprising considering the personalities of Shou and Nie are so different. I was surprised to see Shou leave the Zelana entirely, although by the end of the episode he returned to it. What was really shocking though was Louser threatening to kill Riml. I thought she was a bad enough mother already, but now this? She tells Riml she wasn’t serious, but who knows what she might have done, she’s quite a cold person…
