SNRI designed the F90 Gundam F90 as a high performance mobile suit with basic armaments that could be augmented by mounting 26 distinct mission packs. One configuration, the N-Type, allowed for the equipping of additional mission packs, either in whole or in part. The ultimate expression of this modular design was the F90FF Gundam F90 FF-Type, a makeshift configuration created by engineer Help Hayden. Nicknamed FF for “Fastest Formula” after the mobile suit team’s name, this configuration of the N-Type mounted elements of the G-Type, V-Type and W-Type mission packs. This mix of packs included the G-Type’s multiple beam weapon, the V-Type’s VSBRs (Variable Speed Beam Rifle), beam shield and radiator fins and the W-Type’s Minovsky Drive unit. This unusual configuration could only be utilized by an expert pilot like Newtype ace Dir Rider. In UC 0116, Dir used the FF-Type in combat against the Zeon remnant group Legacy, which attempted to capture the orbital anti-meteorite cannon Trimurti and fire it at Earth.
