The FA-78-1B Full Armor Gundam Type B was a revision of the earlier FA-78-1 Full Armor Gundam. The Type B used the same Full-armor System and Weapon System (or FSWS) that added extra weapons and armor to the base mobile suit to boost its performance. The Type B was designed for mid-range bombardment and was capable of breaking past a mobile suit defense line and ships to destroy an enemy flagship. The Type B featured a long-distance optics observation system built into its backpack. The Type B had a higher output generator to power its main weapon, a 3-barrel beam rifle. The Type B was also armed with vulcan guns, two beam sabers, a large missile launcher on its left shoulder, a rocket launcher on its right shoulder and multiple missile launchers in the shoulder and knee armor. In UC 0089, the Earth Federation Forces declassified some information relating to Operation V suits, including the Type B. In the following year, the Federation Survey Service conducted a computer simulated battle using the design of the Type B.
