FLAG is a TV series that aired exclusively in Japan from 2006-2007. Directed by Ryosuke Takahashi and Kazuo Terada, its creative team includes writer Toru Nozaki, mechanical designers Kazutaka Miyatake, Yasuhiro Moriki and Hideaki Kurakawa, character designers Kazuyoshi Takeuchi and musical composer Yoshihiro Ike. Told entirely through the perspective of cameras, the series focuses on Saeko Shirasu, a young war photojournalist whose photo of a UN flag in the fictional war-torn country of Uddiyana became a symbol of peace. When the flag is stolen ahead of a peace agreement, Shirasu embeds with a UN unit sent to retrieve it by using an armored mecha called the High Agility Versatile Weapon Carrier, or HAVWC. The Japanese broadcast was followed by the release of a compilation OVA. The series was released on home video in North America by Bandai Entertainment, but it is long out of print.
