Sousuke stumbles to his feet and is so stunned at the idea of Chidori’s death that he doesn’t feel anything when a flying shard of glass makes a cut across his cheek. The other SRT search team finds him and informs him of the battle going on. The say that the Arbalest is on its way but Sousuke keeps muttering to himself. Deciding that Sousuke has totally lost it, one of the soldiers prepares to shoot him but jumps to the side when they see the Arbalest land and skid towards them. Sousuke refuses to pilot it and walks away, only to run into Chidori. She administers a brutal beating then tries to confess her feelings to Sousuke but stops short. She asks why he isn’t helping Mao and the others and Sousuke tells her that can’t pilot the Arbalest anymore. Chidori gives Sousuke a pep talk followed with a kick to the face to finally snap him out of his stupor.
Meanwhile Clouseau has been putting up a good fight against Yu Fan, but when she blocks his anti-tank dagger the shrapnel from the explosion blows off his Falke’s leg. Just then Gates and his squad arrive. Gates scolds Yu Fan and she retorts that this is revenge against Amalgam for causing the civil war that destroyed their hometown. Gates dangles Yu Lan’s corpse in front of Yu Fan and starts mocking her. The constant pressure eventually breaks Yu Lan’s arm. Mad with rage, Yu Fan jumps at Gates only to be knocked down easily. Gates stabs through the cockpit and completely incinerates the Codarl then turns his attention to Clouseau. He’s about to blast him with his demolition gun when a shot goes through his barrier and nicks the Venom’s shoulder. Sousuke apologizes for being late and tells everyone to leave the rest to him. Al confirms the activation of the Lambda Driver. Sousuke destroys the Codarl squad and blows off Gates’ weapons. Gates grabs Clouseau and holds him hostage, demanding to know who Sousuke is. Sousuke announces himself as Sousuke Sagara of Jindai High, class 4-2, and runs at Gates charging energy in his fist. He punches the air in front of Clouseau, and the blast goes through the Falke and completely obliterates Gates. Al asks Sousuke how he was able to succeed, and the latter replies that he simply found the answer to their problem. Sousuke tells his teammates to pick up the Arbalest then leaves it to run after Chidori. Leonard who was watching the battle from the rooftops relays the results to someone over the phone. Hunter and Wraith discuss the situation and Wraith asks where Sousuke and Chidori are now. Hunter says that they went back to Tokyo and Wraith remarks that Sousuke went against his orders. Hunter retorts that she’s just as guilty for bringing Chidori to Hong Kong. Back at Merida island, Sousuke asks the heads of Mithril to let him go back to school in exchange for piloting the Arbalest and working for half his current salary. General Amitt simply won’t have it but Mallory silences his objections and grants Sousuke’s request. After the meeting, Mardukas and Kalinin walk out, leaving Sousuke and Tessa alone in the conference room. They apologize to each other and Tessa asks if they can still be friends. Sousuke calls her by her name and tells her that she’s a very important person to him. Sousuke exits the room flustered, leaving Tessa jumping with joy at his confession. Sousuke goes back to school and has the teacher tear up his letter. From a nearby rooftop, Wraith points a laser sight at the teacher’s head out of amusement, and hilarity ensues. Chidori scolds Sousuke, then bursts into tears and scolds him again for leaving her alone. Her friends see this and berate Sousuke for making Chidori cry. On the way home, Sousuke asks Chidori what she was trying to say back in Hong Kong, and she replies that it was nothing.
As if Gates wasn’t a crazy sadistic bastard as it is, here we seem him using an arm slave to fling Yu Lan’s corpse around like a rag doll then kills off Yu Fan without so much as breaking a sweat. Though to be fair Clouseau had done a good job tiring Yu Fan out at that point. Too bad the rest of the battle went by a little too quickly. Sousuke finally figured out what he wanted to do with his life after spending so much time drowned in doubt and uncertainty. It didn’t help that some people at Mithril saw him simply as a component of Arbalest which is why they kept referring to the arm slave as unstable. It was really nice to see Sousuke finally man up when he told off Amitt and openly spoke to Tessa, and now the status quo is pretty much restored. The Second Raid is a nice continuation to the series but it’s sad that they haven’t followed up on it because as it is a supposedly important character like Leonard didn’t get to do much aside from being an eyesore since his introduction.
