Summary

On the Tuatha de Danaan, Tessa comments that it’s unusual for the school to have a field trip at this time of the year. She notes the destination, Okinawa, and tells Kalinin that she lived there once. Kalinin switches the topic to the Whispered project and says there’s a drug circulating around a research facility in Khavarosvk in the Soviet Union. Tessa comments that hacking will be impossible and Kalinin responds that they should destroy the facility using cruise missiles. Tessa agrees and orders the operation to begin on the evening of the next day off and to conduct surveillance to keep casualties to a minimum. When Kalinin begins to talk about the Arbalest, Tessa clumsily drops her clipboards. At school, Sousuke is having trouble sorting the trash and Kaname helps him. Their classmates notice that they’re suddenly getting along well. At his apartment, Sousuke is reviewing the trash duty rules while Weber serves up dinner. Mao notes that Sousuke is tired and orders him to take a break and leave the watching to them, to which he reluctantly agrees. Mao gets annoyed when she finds that Weber used up all their canned food to make dinner. The next day, Chidori & Kyoko are shopping for new swimsuits when Weber approaches them pretending to be a lost foreigner, angering Mao who’s standing nearby in the cloaked M9. Elsewhere, the Tuatha de Danaan fires a cruise missile at the facility and submerges. With three hours before it hits the target, Commander Richard Mardukas suggests that Tessa takes a nap. She refuses out of fear of having bad dreams. At the apartment, Sousuke rolls out from his sleeping spot under the bed when he hears a noise, which turns out to be Weber returning drunk after a night out with Chidori & Kyoko. They bicker a bit before Mao notices someone climbing the balconies to Chidori’s apartment.

While Weber watches from the roof and Mao stands by in the M9, Sousuke rappels down the building and holds the person at gunpoint. It turns out to be Kazama Shinji from school. Weber notices the pair of panties in his hands and tells Sousuke to handle the rest while he and Mao return. Sousuke removes Shinji’s headgear and asks for an explanation. Shinji recognizes Sousuke but he points a gun in his face and tells him he’s mistaken. Shinji explains that his seniors from the photography club took all his arm slave photos and won’t return them until he steals Chidori’s panties. They engage in a discussion about arm slaves while Weber and Mao listen on. When Chidori finds them and sees her panties in Sousuke’s hands, hilarity ensues. Back on the Tuatha de Danaan, the complete destruction of the facility is confirmed. The KGB officer informs Gaulon that all the research data was lost and that their deal is off. Gaulon taunts him for keeping it a secret from the Kremlin and informs him that he has a backup copy of the data. He also ratted him out to the authorities, who arrest him on site. Weber is bandaging Sousuke after Chidori’s attack when new orders are faxed in. Due to the destruction of the research facility, they no longer have to protect Chidori and the mission is over. Sousuke, however, still has to participate in the field trip as the fees have already been paid. At the airport, Chidori is still mad at Sousuke. Gaulon boards the plane and jokes to the stewardess about throwing all the high school students off the plane.

Commentary

Another slow episode that gives more questions than answers. Now that the KGB’s out of the picture, what does Gaulon want with Chidori and the Whispered project? Perhaps he has another employer. And what of this Arbalest that Kalinin mentions briefly? Gaulon boarding the same plane as Chidori definitely means that the field trip will be rudely interrupted. We’ll see how Sousuke manages on his own.
