The Fokker D.VII was a replica of a combat biplane used in World War I in 1918. It was powered by a single turboprop engine and could fly at a top speed of 186 km/h. In the early 21st century, Roy Focker and Hikaru Ichijyo flew Fokkers as part of the air circus run by Hikaru’s father. Roy eventually left the air circus and joined the U.N. forces, becoming a fighter pilot who saw combat during the Unification Wars. Years later, Hikaru reunited with his old mentor for the launch ceremony of the Macross in February 2009.
