The G-Fighter was a support unit created by the Earth Federation Forces for the RX-78-2 Gundam. It was the first EFF fighter to be equipped with a nuclear fusion reactor and to be propelled by nuclear thermal rockets. Capable of functioning in both Earth’s atmosphere and space, the G-Fighter’s A- and B-Parts could combine with the Gundam in various configurations to adapt to different combat roles. The A-Parts included the fighter’s nose section and caterpillar treads used by the G-Bull, while the B-Parts included the rear of the fighter. The G-Fighter was armed with a pair of beam cannons and missile launchers.
The first G-Fighter unit was delivered to the White Base prior to Operation Odessa and was assigned to Sayla Mass. A second unit piloted by Sleggar Law was brought on board at Jaburo and was destroyed later at the Battle of Solomon in a kamikaze attack against the MA-08 Big-Zam. Sayla’s unit was destroyed at the Battle of A Baoa Qu, but she survived. Although initially used exclusively by the Gundam, the EFF produced more G-Fighters for use with other mobile suits. Variations included a Space Type, Bomber Type and Assault Landing Type.
