The Principality of Zeon developed the small Gagaul class from existing ships to support its mobile suits in the field. Due to the Gagaul‘s small size, the ship lacked facilities for mobile suit supply and maintenance, which had to be carried out by other ships in the fleet. The Gagaul‘s armaments included two main guns, two secondary guns and an 8-tube missile launcher. Eventually, the Gagaul class was reassigned as a destroyer, but some were designated as motherships for reconnaissance forces using the MS-06E Recon Type Zaku.
