GaoGaiGar Ep. 15: 3G Targeted

0
Summary

Two years ago during the establishment of 3G, Minoru Inobuzaki was passed over for the position of computer systems technologist in favor of Entouji. Holding a grudge ever since made him an easy target for Zonderization by Penchinon in the present. 3G is enjoying a slow routine day when suddenly the alarm announces an intruder in the base. It starts wrecking havoc with the central computer system. Guy who is lying in the infirmary gets shocked by electrical surges and Mikoto is knocked out trying to get him loose. Down in the hangar area, the automated cranes start swinging the helpless HyoRyu and EnRyu around and Hyuuma rescues Kazou from being nearly crushed by them. He tries to contact the main order but gets nothing but static. The 3G base computer system is taken over entirely by the Zonder, and a laughing Minoru reveals himself on the monitor. Mamoru sense the Zonder in the direction of 3G’s base and wonders what’s going on. As Minoru continues to seal off and sabotage the base, Taiga pleads with him to let the staff go but Leo says that’s beyond listening to them now. Volfogg and Mamoru infiltrate the base from one of the intelligence division’s emergency passages, and Entouji pinpoints Minoru’s location at the center of the Bay Tower base. Minoru shuts down the cooling systems for the base’s reactor, which will eventually cause it to explode. Volfogg pleads with Mamoru to stay outside but the latter insists that he wants to help since they need him to purify the Zonder anyway. When Volfogg hesitates, Mamoru pulls rank and orders him to comply. Volfogg straps Mamoru to his shoulder and descends into the base. Taiga remarks that with Guy, HyoRyu and EnRyu incapacitated they can’t do anything, but Entouji reminds him that there’s still one more person. They all hear Volfogg sliding down the access tunnels and Entouji says that it’s all up to him now.

Volfogg plans to use the Multi-Dimensional Intelligence Submarine’s computer to stop Minoru since its reactor is independent from the base’s, but upon reaching it he discovers that Minoru has hacked into it as well. With the reactor nearing the critical point, Swan has all but given up, but Taiga reminds them of 3G rules Article 5 Clause 120, which state that under no circumstances will a 3G member give up! Entouji finally reveals that Minoru’s move to the submarine’s computer was the mistake he was waiting for; as it isolated him and allowed his intruder destruction program to kick in. With the reactor cooled again and the base back in 3G’s control, Entouji tracks Minoru’s weakened body to the 3G robot’s spare parts storage. Volfogg enters the Big Order Room and tells Mamoru to head to the main order room. Mamoru has him promise not to do anything rash. Minoru fuses with the spare parts to become EI-15. It tries to smash the storage area’s wall but Volfogg jumps it and has Entouji open the diving hatch, flooding the chamber with water and forcing them out of the base. After emerging on the surface and scaring away Hana and her large dog Yoseph, EI-15 throws off Volfogg, who summons the Gun machines and becomes Big Volfogg. EI-15 blocks Big Volfogg’s 4000 Magnum with its barrier, so he uses his Melting Siren to disable the barrier and move in for a close attack. However EI-15 uses its extendable limbs to knock Big Volfogg away. Kazou announces that HyoRyu and EnRyu’s repairs won’t be finished for another hour, and Swan says that the Gao machines’ startup program has been deleted. Guy shows up with Mikoto in his arms and says there’s still a way. As EI-15 beats up Big Volfogg, GaiGar shows up along with the Gao machines piloted manually by Hyuuma, Leo and Kazou. Mikoto complains that the chances of manual Final Fusion’s success are low. Guy dodges an attack and says there’s no time to waste thinking about it. Entouji adds that he can support the process and increase the odds. The rest of the team yell out that their courage will add up to the rest and Taiga happily approves. EI-15 tries to break past the combination barrier but Big Volfogg holds him back. Once GaoGaiGar is formed, Guys prepares to fire a Broken Magnum and is surprised to see EI-15 do the same. Leo notes that since it’s using parts from GaoGaiGar it will have similar abilities. The two projectiles knock each other back, so Guy immediately uses Hell and Heaven and EI-15 counters with the same. The attacks collide and Guy eventually overpowers EI-15 and rips out its core, because as Entouji notes an imposter can never match the original. Mamoru purifies the core, but Guy suddenly falls unconscious and GaoGaiGar powers down.

Commentary

The most intense episode so far, which is appropriate given that this Zonder had a grudge against someone from 3G itself. Though one would think that 3G would be a bit more careful than to allow a single computer to control the entire Bay Tower base. And not only did Minoru do a number on the base itself, he transformed into a powerful nightmarish version of GaoGaiGar. It’s as close as GaoGaiGar will get to fighting a clone of himself, at least if you don’t count what will happen in Final. 3G still came out victorious, but it seems Guy is starting to pay the price for his overuse of Hell and Heaven.
