Summary

Both 3G and the Machine Kings discuss the Dividing Driver’s properties at the same time and consider the possibility of the repression field being sabotaged. Elsewhere, an incredibly obese man causes problems when he unintentionally scares a baby and bounces an entire car off his body. He laments his situation on a bridge overlooking a river and accidentally falls off. Primada appears before him with a Zonder crystal. At 3G, Leo and Taiga oversee the repairs to HyoRyu, EnRyu and the Gao machines. With the repairs going well, Taiga remarks that the only problem now is Guy, who’s lying in the infirmary with Swan and Mikoto. Swan laments Guy’s situation, and Mikoto says that even without using Hell and Heaven Guy would overwork his body anyway. Kazou and Hyuuma boot up the newly arrived 3G robots from America: the Pliers. The Zonder absorbs a large pile of discarded tires and morphs into a massive one, with Primada remarking that his defeat will be the death of GaoGaiGar. Mamoru senses the Zonder and meets up with Volfogg. HyoRyu and EnRyu are dispatched to Osaka, and Taiga asks Guy if he’s alright. He tells Guy that use of Hell and Heaven will be at his discretion but he must come back safely and Mikoto threatens to feed Guy Konnyaku if he disobeys. Hana drags Ayame up a pagoda overlooking Osaka, where they spot EI-17 as it rampages through town. HyoRyu and EnRyu arrive to begin emergency work. EI-17 slams into the base of the pagoda and causes it to lean with Hana and Ayame still in it. Galeon slams into EI-17 then fuses with Guy into GaiGar. Guy tries to kick EI-17 but is knocked back by its rubbery body. EI-17 morphs into a humanoid form and Guy performs Final Fusion. The Dividing Driver is launched and Guy grapples with EI-17 to keep it away from the pagoda while Hana and Ayame are being rescued. Guy knocks EI-17 into the river then creates the repression field with the Dividing Driver. From afar, Primada remarks that GaoGaiGar has fallen into her trap.

EI-17’s body bounces back any attempt by Guy to harm it, so he uses Hell and Heaven despite Mikoto’s protest. The explosion knocks the Zonder core out of Guy’s hands but HyoRyu and EnRyu manage to grab it. Mamoru purifies the core which causes the obese man to lose all his extra weight. Suddenly Guy is enveloped by a super-folded space and trapped inside the repression field. Guy and EnRyu’s attempts to go through the field end in failure. Leo says that the field was formed from the rotational energy of EI-17’s destruction and the repression field and that the Eraser Head cannot dissipate it. Mikoto can’t reach Guy, and Taiga and Leo realize that if the repression field closes with the fold space and Guy in it, both Guy and Osaka will be wiped out. With less than three minutes left before the repression field closes, Leo has no choice but to deploy the new Pliers, which are designed to manipulate spatial folds. The Pliers arrive at the repression field and combine into their namesake. They penetrate the fold space while the rest of the 3G robots change into ChoRyuJin and Big Volfogg to provide support. GaoGaiGar uses the Dimension Pliers to exit the fold space and throw it skywards just as the repression field closes. Primada curses at the new arrivals and leaves silently. Hana spots Mamoru who tries to deny it’s him and runs away.

Commentary

Ok, it was easy to forgive the Dues Ex Machina resolution to episode six because it was still early in the show, but doing it again here is just silly. 3G was doing just fine by improvising with their current tools without the need to introduce a new one that just happens to be needed in the same episode. I’m also finding the idea that Mamoru cured the victim’s obesity a bit iffy. It makes more sense to assume the excess fat was converted into the massive energy that his Zonder form contained. At least you can’t accuse the Machine Kings of reusing the same tactic too often. Trapping GaoGaiGar in his own repression field certainly was a smart plan, and 3G needs to think of more contingencies to avoid having their tools backfire on them.
