GaoGaiGar Ep. 42: A Return from Ancient Times

After purifying the Primeval cores, Kaidou drops off the unconscious former hosts back on Earth. Elsewhere, Mamoru’s class is on a field trip gathering fossils. Mamoru and Hana are still spaced out over what they learned during the Magnificent Seven’s attack when Sueo discovers a large metallic structure. Mamoru backs up and realizes that it’s actually the body of ChoRyuJin embedded into the rock wall. 3G arrives in Amaterasu to dig out ChoRyuJin’s body, and Leo is completely baffled by the fact that the body is buried in a layer of rock that’s sixty five million years old. Volfogg reports the result of their analysis: The body is wrecked beyond repair, but the GS-Ride and AI system is fine and in hibernation, protected by an unidentified energy. Izanagi prepares to depart for Switzerland to deliver the Zonder crystals to a research lab. Liger explains that he wants to perform an experiment on the crystals and only the Swiss lab has large enough particle acceleration equipment to do it. Taiga wants Guy and Goldymarg to escort Izanagi in case the Primevals try to attack it, and Mic declares that he’ll guard the Orbit Base while they’re gone. Guy says that after the experiment he wants to visit ChoRyuJin and welcome him back. After takeoff, Guy spots the young woman and wonders why she’s wearing a sorrowful expression. Down in Egypt, Pagliaccio orders Arm Primeval to build another Zonder metal plant along with Stomach Primeval. In Mexico, Intestine and Nose Primeval prepare to execute a similar plan as well while hiding under a gravity well to avoid detection. As Izanagi nears its destination, it’s intercepted by the J-Ark. J and Guy fuse into J-Der and GaiGar. J demands that they hand over the Zonder crystals to him and Guy wants to know what he plans to do with them, but J refuses to answer. Guy reminds him that the Primevals are their common enemy, but J retorts that their mission is more important than the fate of the Earth. Guy refuses to give the crystals and J says that he’ll take them by force. Taiga gives the approval for Final Fusion, but before Mikoto can slam the panel she experiences a sudden surge of dizziness. She manages to recover and initiate Program Drive. J and Guy fuse into King J-Der and GaoGaiGar. J makes a grab for Izanagi, but Guy gives him a faceful of Drill Knee. J throws Guy onto the deck and Goldymarg stops him from sliding. Guy fires a Broken Magnum but it gets repelled by King J-Der’s Generating Armor. Arm Primeval merges with one of the Great Pyramids and fires the other two at the Izanagi. Guy and J destroy the pyramids but the explosion scatters special sand particles that cover Izanagi and the robots. Disabled and unable to move, they all plummet into the sea.

Taiga sends Hyuuma, GekiRyuJin and Big Volfogg aboard Susanoh to Egypt to counter the Primevals while Mic and Amaterasu rescue Izanagi. Mamoru tells Big Volfogg to be careful because he thinks there’s more than one. GekiRyuJin and Big Volfogg arrive in Egypt and are surprised by the appearance of Stomach Primeval, who has merged with the Great Sphinx to form ZX-14. ZX-14 fires highly corrosive acid at Big Volfogg, which melts his Murasame Sword and disables him. GekiRyuJin retaliates with Xiang Tou Long but ZX-14 swallows the attack. Intestine Primeval starts her attack by fusing with a Mayan temple and spreading her black hole to trap nearby tourists. Mamoru senses the other Primevals but no one is available to intercept them. Mic uses his Sound Sonar to try to find Izanagi and GaoGaiGar. Mamoru wishes ChoRyuJin would wake up but Leo tells him that he can’t fight in the state he’s in. 3G monitors the Primevals and discover that they’re absorbing energy from a tropical tornado and the sun to grow the Zonder metal plant. Mikoto asks about Disc X and Swan replies that the sandstorm and black hole will cause interference that will block the sound waves. GekiRyuJin realizes he’s the only one left and separates back into FuRyu and RaiRyu. The dragons agree that if they run from this fight they’ll never be able to face HyoRyu and EnRyu. FuRyu decides to stay in Egypt while RaiRyu heads to Mexico with Susanoh. RaiRyu arrives and starts attacking Intestine Primeval, but Nose Primeval, fused with a Moai head to form ZX-15, pops up from the black hole. The dragons are too preoccupied with evading the Primeval’s attacks to stop the Zonder metal plant. Mamoru cries and wishes there was something he could do. His tears fall on ChoRyuJin’s body which suddenly starts to glow. The GS-Ride starts up and his body completely de-fossilizes. ChoRyuJin stands up and starts yelling uncontrollably.

A lot of things happen at once in this episode. One track minded J finally decides to take back the Zonder crystals from 3G even if it means fighting them. Guy of course isn’t afraid to throw down even if King J-Der is three times his size and certifiably able to rip a Primeval apart with its bare hands. Their duel however is interrupted by the Primevals pretty much disabling most of the Brave Robot Corps, leaving the Chinese dragons alone to contend with them. Mikoto suffers the first of several convulsions, foreshadowing a later event in the show. The big surprise is obviously ChoRyuJin, who somehow crossed time and space back to Earth and is subsequently revived by a combination of Mamoru’s tears and the mysterious energy that’s been keeping him intact for millions of years.
