As its name implied, the GFAS-X1 Destroy Gundam was designed for a single purpose: massive destruction. At more than triple the height of the average mobile suit, the Destroy Gundam was closer to a mobile fortress than a mobile suit. Nearly every part of the Destroy Gundam was equipped with a weapon. Armaments included head cannons, detachable arm cannons, chest cannons, missile launchers and a positron reflector shield. When transformed into attack mode, additional armaments included two high-energy beam cannons, and the backpack was lined with 20 beam cannons. At least 10 Destroy Gundam units were built for use by Logos, the secret organization that controlled the Earth Alliance. The first unit, used by artificially enhanced Extended pilot Stella Loussier, was sent to destroy Berlin in retaliation for Europe sympathizing with ZAFT. That unit was destroyed by Kira Yamato’s ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam, but only after heavy damage was inflicted upon Berlin. Soon after, ZAFT initiated Operation Ragnarok and attacked Heavens Base, the Alliance’s supreme headquarters in Iceland. Five Destroy Gundam units launched to protect the base, but they were all destroyed in combat by Minerva Gundam pilots Shinn Asuka, Rey Za Burrel and Lunamaria Hawke. A Destroy Gundam was also used by an Orb pilot working under the command of the Phantom Pain unit, but it was destroyed by Ergnes Brahe’s MMF-JG73L Turn Δ. Later, after the Requiem cannon destroyed several PLANTs, ZAFT attacked the Alliance’s Daedalus lunar base and was again confronted by three more Destroy Gundam units, which were destroyed by Shinn and Rey. In C.E. 75, the anti-Coordinator terrorist group Blue Cosmos used a Destroy Gundam for attacks against PLANT-allied cities in Africa.
