G Gundam Ep. 24: Bright New Star! The Birth of the God Gundam

Domon watches the Devil Gundam sink into the ground and he sees a Neo Japan bud carrier descend from the sky. Chibodee, George and Sai Saici all arrive at Neo Hong Kong, with only a few hours to spare. At the same time, the Neo Russian plane arrives, as well as a Neo Japanese shuttle carrying Karato, Urube and Dr. Mikamura. Karato wonders where Domon is, because only three hours remain until the Finals begin. Rain is reunited with her father, and they wonder when Domon will arrive. Nastasha wonders if helping Domon was a waste of effort, and Argo says he believes in Domon. Domon watches the bud carrier land and sees that it’s carrying the new God Gundam for the Finals. The ground breaks away, and an aged Master Asia attacks. Domon wonders why their fight must go on, and Master Asia says he wishes Domon had never become a Gundam Fighter. He says if Domon had never interfered with him, he could have used the Devil Gundam in his plans for Earth. Domon doesn’t care what his excuses are and says he should clearly say what he means. The Shining Gundam loses all of its power, and Domon runs to the God Gundam’s bud carrier. Master Asia fires his fist at Domon, but the Shining Gundam takes the blow through its cockpit. Master Asia realizes that Domon must have used the remaining energy in the Core Lander to program a final move. He is shocked that Domon predicted his next move.

With only one hour left, everyone in Neo Hong Kong begins to worry. Master Asia knocks Domon and the God Gundam off the side of a cliff. Domon manages to get inside the God Gundam and turn it on, but it won’t move. In Neo Hong Kong, Dr. Mikamura gives Rain a micro brainwave transmitter so that she can transfer the Shining Gundam’s battle data to the God Gundam, which will allow it to move. Rain sees all the people who are important to Domon: the other four Gundam Fighters, Master Asia, and herself. She is able to take control of the Shining Gundam and make it crawl over to the capsule. She tells Domon she finally realizes how she feels about him, and the battle data is transferred. The God Gundam rises from the capsule, and Master Asia regenerates the Master Gundam to fight back. Domon tells Master Asia to rest in peace, and Master Asia says he will never let Domon go. Domon flies at Master Asia, and with the verniers of the God Gundam, he incinerates the Master Gundam and destroys it. With only a few minutes left, Domon flies into space and uses the beam ropes surrounding Earth to catapult him to Neo Hong Kong. With only two minutes remaining, he is attacked by four objects from space. He manages to pull ahead of them and lands in Neo Hong Kong with a second to spare. He sees Rain and embraces her. She calls him an idiot and says she was very worried about him. Fireworks go off around the city, and the Gundam Fight Finals officially begin.

This was a great episode, and it does well in wrapping up the Guiana Highlands arc and leading into the Finals arc. Domon and Master Asia have their final battle, and Domon manages to come out on top (with the help of the God Gundam). The God Gundam itself is a very nice design, much nicer than the Shining Gundam. When Rain sees Domon’s memories and sees herself, I think she realizes that he loves her, and she him. Of course, they’re both probably too shy to admit it. Apparently Master Asia is dead, but I wouldn’t count on it since the Master Gundam has the regeneration abilities of the Devil Gundam. And what were those four objects that attacked Domon to prevent him from arriving at the Finals on time? Are they more servants of the Devil Gundam and Master Asia? I guess we’ll see more when the Finals begin.
