G Gundam Ep. 39: Sekiha Tenkyouken! Duel with Master Asia

0
Summary

Domon runs over to Alenbie and pulls her out of the Nobell Gundam‘s cockpit. Argo asks for help with Andrew, and Domon leaves Alenbie in Rain’s care. A medical helicopter arrives and takes Alenbie away against Rain’s wishes. Master Asia asks why Wong has nearly killed Domon, and Wong explains he is simply looking for the strongest fighter. He thinks that Master Asia hasn’t quite terminated the teacher-student relationship with Domon. Master Asia says he and Domon are enemies, and Wong decides that Domon’s next battle will be very interesting. He decides that Domon will fight Schwarz, even though both are undefeated and qualify for the Battle Royal. At the hospital, Argo tells Domon that Andrew survived his operation, but he will never fight again. Rain says that Alenbie isn’t in the hospital, and Domon yells at her for not taking care of Alenbie. One of Neo Sweden’s team says that Alenbie and Behluima are missing and that they must have been kidnapped by whoever has their own Berserker System. At night, Rain stands on the boat with Hoy and Ming and remembers what Domon said at the hospital. He told her she was unfit to be a doctor or part of his crew because she abandoned Alenbie. She tried to find out where he was going, but he knocked her to the floor and left on his own. Hoy and Ming say Domon will be fine, and Rain thinks that Domon is better off on his own. Domon looks at the city from afar and is approached by Fuunsaiki. He rides the horse all the way to the river and gets on a boat. The boat takes him to a desolate island in the northeast. Domon is surprised that such a ruined place exists near Neo Hong Kong, and Master Asia calls out to him. Wong is told that Master Asia is meeting with Domon, and he orders the activation of the Gundam Heads. Master Asia doesn’t know that Wong can control the Gundam Heads, so he can cover the attack up if he survives. Master Asia says that Schwarz is the next opponent, but he intends to defeat Domon first. The two begin fighting, but a Gundam Head appears between them and attacks Domon.

Domon wonders if Master Asia is behind the attack, and Master Asia believes it’s Wong’s fault. The Gundam Head knocks Domon in the air, and Master Asia saves him with his belt. The ground breaks open, and both Domon and Master Asia fall down into a deep cavern. Domon asks why Master Asia saved him, and he replies he simply didn’t want the Gundam Head to be able to defeat Domon before him. Water starts to fill the cavern, and Domon tries to summon the God Gundam until Master Asia says that doing that would kill both of them. He says the cavern is a tunnel that leads to the city, and they agree on a truce until they reach the surface. As they walk through the cavern, falling rocks cave in on both sides and trap them. Domon wonders how they’ll get out, and Master Asia has an idea. He uses the final move of the Toho Fuhai Style of Martial Arts, the Sekiha Tenkyouken (Rock Breaking, Sky Shocking Punch) to destroy the wall. Domon remembers that Master Asia used the same move to save him when he was attacked by wolves as a boy in the Guiana Highlands. Master Asia says that Domon is the same now because he is distracted by what he sees. He also tells Domon that the Earth is on the edge of extinction, but people are so absorbed in the Gundam Fight that they don’t see it. They reach another dead end and Master Asia says he doesn’t have enough strength left to use the Sekiha Tenkyouken. They use their power to break out and reach the surface. The Gundam Heads attack again, and Domon calls the God Gundam, while Master Asia calls the Master Gundam and Fuunsaiki. Domon is attacked by the Gundam Heads, and Master Asia tells him to use the Sekiha Tenkyouken. Domon flies up in the air, goes into Hyper Mode, and uses the final move to destroy the Gundam Heads. Before leaving, Master Asia says that with this move he can defeat Schwarz now. Elsewhere, Dr. Mikamura performs final adjustments on the new Rising Gundam, and Karato finds Rain’s letter of resignation.

Commentary

This episode was good, as it continued the cliffhanger from the last episode. Ok, I guess I was wrong about Andrew dying. I think it would have been better if he did die. I’m amazed that Domon overreacted so much about Alenbie. I think he treated Rain too harshly, and the consequence of that is that she has resigned. Master Asia and Wong are definitely at odds, and it looks like Wong considers him to be expendable now. It was a surprise to see Master Asia and Domon work together, which only makes the reason for Master Asia being evil more elusive. It looks like he was trying to say why he’s aligned with the Devil Gundam, but he never says anything. And what’s with Neo Japan’s new Rising Gundam? How many Gundams do they need? This is the Gundam seen under construction when the God Gundam was sent to Domon in the Guiana Highlands. Whatever it is, it certainly can’t be more powerful than the God Gundam.
