In preparation for confronting the reformed Coalition of Volunteers, Riku Mikami developed the Heavy Weapon System (HWS) as an upgrade to the GN-0000DVR/S Gundam 00 Sky. Riku designed the HWS to perform a maximum firepower attack with physical projectiles, with the intention of ejecting the HWS afterward. The new HWS armaments included four multi-missile launchers mounted on the sky bracers and sky leg guards, two large missile pods and two lancer missiles that could penetrate a target and explode from within or spread small projectiles to deal with multiple targets.
