The GNR-001 GN Arms was created as a support mecha to power up the Gundams. The GN Arms was stored in the rear section of the Assault Container that replaced the normal container of the Ptolemaios. Although the GN Arms was capable of independent operation, it needed to combine with the Gundam to form the GN Armor for sustained use as it lacked a GN Drive and was powered by a GN Condenser. When in GN Armor form, part of the wings could act as clavicle antenna, improving the GN particle control ability. The equipment of the GN Arms could be changed according to what Gundam it was docking with, and only two GN Arms were produced, the Type-E and Type-D configuration.

The GN Arms Type-D was designed as a long-range anti-fleet unit and featured no close combat weapons. The GN Twin Rifle was weaker than the large-size GN Cannons, but it had high accuracy in long range attacks. The Type-D launched in its GN Armor form (docked with the GN-002 Gundam Dynames), and was operated by the Haro in the Gundam Dynames. It was thus incapable of independent operation. Lockon Stratos used the Type-D in 2308 to fight off multiple ships from an attacking UN fleet. However, the unit was destroyed by Ali al-Saachez’s GNW-002 Gundam Throne Zwei. Forced to abandon the damaged Gundam Dynames, Lockon rigged a surviving GN Cannon to fire on the Throne Zwei. However, Ali reacted quickly enough to return fire and kill Lockon.
