Technical and Historical Notes

Celestial Being engineer Ian Vashti developed the GNT-0000/FS 00 Qan[T] Full Saber equipment in the event that the GNT-0000 00 Qan[T]‘s new GN Drives were unable to function stably. The GN Sword IV Full Saber performed the same function as the GNR-010 0 Raiser to stabilize the Twin Drive System. However, while the 0 Raiser’s stabilization function was added later, the GN Sword IV Full Saber was designed as a weapon from the outset. When mounted on the suit’s right side, the saber served as a counterweight to the GN Shield, which maintained balance during contact. Although the GN Sword IV was completed first, it was never used because testing of the GN Drives showed that they could function stably without extra equipment. Also, the 00 Qan[T] vanished in 2314 after Setsuna F. Seiei established dialogues with the ELS. A simulation run by engineer Sherilyn Fenn concluded that the GN Sword IV Full Saber alone could destroy the ELS in a week, but the simulation did not account for pilot fatigue or enemy reinforcements.

The GN Sword IV Full Saber was mounted on the suit’s back via an attachment pack. This attachment pack had a cone-shaped thruster, and an attachment point on the left for the GN Shield. The various components of the GN Sword IV Full Saber had their own individual functions. By changing the way these components combined, the GN Sword IV Full Saber could function in different ways other than as a large sword. The GN Sword IV Full Saber consisted of the GN Sword IV and three GN Gunblades. The GN Sword IV itself could split into two parts; the top part contained the sword blade, while the bottom part contained the retractable handle and the mounting point to the back-mounted attachment part.
