The GNX-704T/FS Ahead Forcing Scout Type (aka Longtail) was a reconnaissance variant of the standard GNX-704T Ahead. The suit was intended for long-range, long duration solo scouting missions without any support from a ship. Data collected from this variant was used to create a long-range booster for the standard Ahead. The GN Drive Tau used by the standard Ahead has an operational time limit. To increase its operating time, the Forcing Scout Type was equipped with an additional large battery and GN Condenser. The additional large battery was mounted on the chest, in front of the cockpit. The electrical energy stored in this battery was used to power the suit’s GN Drive Tau. The GN Drive Tau was also adjusted to allow it to produce a set amount of GN particles for an extended period of time. Due to these modifications, the suit could operate for about a week without resupply. However, if the suit had to consume a large amount of particles within a short period like the standard Ahead, the particles within the GN Condenser would be depleted.

The storage tanks on the rear waist armor were composite storage tanks. They stored water and GN particles that were used for posture control and also as propellant. Both water and GN particles were necessities for long-range cruising. The additional large GN verniers on the back were designed to produce the largest amount of propelling force using a small amount of GN particles. The wing-like downward extension at the bottom contained a microwave receiving antenna used to receive electrical energy when the suit was within the transmission range of a power-generating satellite. An additional sensor unit was mounted on the head to strengthen the suit’s reconnaissance capabilities. The sensor unit was equipped with E-sensor, optical sensor and several other different sensors. As a result, the suit retained high sensing capability even in areas saturated with GN particles. The use of the GN Vulcan Guns was limited when the sensor unit was attached, as there were delicate parts in the unit. The pair of GN Beam Cannons were the largest used by a mobile suit; each cannon was 18 meters in length. Stored GN particles meant for the propulsion system could be used to power the cannons. The GN Beam Cannons were exceptionally powerful, but also consumed lots of GN particles.
