The GNX-Y802T Neo-Hed was a next generation mobile suit developed using data from the GNX-704T/AC Ahead Sakigake and GNX-704T/SP Ahead Smultron testbeds. The Neo-Hed’s most distinct feature was the lack of of a head, and its intended name “Neo Head” morphed into the nickname “No Head” because of this feature. The head was removed because combat data indicated that heads (and the sensors concentrated in them) were often destroyed in battle. To minimize this effect, the sensors were distributed throughout the body. The Neo-Hed was equipped with the same type of back mounted, movable thruster unit as the Ahead Smultron. The number of verniers on the arms and legs were increased in tandem with the addition of extra armor on various parts of the suit. These verniers were a new design and also functioned as GN Condensers. Through all these modifications, the suit was capable of high-speed movements and had high controllability.

The suit’s GN Beam Rifle was an improved version of the one used by the standard GNX-704T Ahead. A GN Beam Saber was mounted underneath the rifle’s barrel, which allowed it to function as a gun sword. An independent GN Beam Saber was stored below the left chest area. By adjusting the power output, the length of the beam blade could be changed. The GN Sword was a large physical sword with GN Field enveloping its surface. The weapon was mounted for left-handers as it was developed using the close combat data from the Ahead Sakigake. The Neo-Hed’s planned mass production version was intended to feature a version for right-handers.

The Neo-Hed was developed by former HRL engineers, while former Union engineers created the GNX-Y901TV Susanowo. Although they were now both members of the ESF army, there still existed a competitive atmosphere between them. The developers’ plan was to divide the Earth Sphere Federation’s mass production machines into two types: a new model of the GN-X series as a lightweight mobile suit, and an Ahead type as a heavy suit. However, when the corrupt nature of A-LAWS was revealed to the world, the Ahead series was canceled as a public relations move because of its exclusive association with A-LAWS. After the disbanding of A-LAWS, the ESF chose the Susanowo-based GNX-Y903VS Brave as the Ahead’s replacement.
