The GNX-Y903VS Brave (Standard Test Type) was developed from the earlier GNX-U02X Masurao and was undergoing testing in 2314. The core of the Brave’s development team consisted of former Union and AEU engineers, which was reflected in the Brave’s general appearance and transformation mechanism. While the GN-X series was based on Celestial Being technology, the Brave incorporated more original technology developed by the Earth Sphere Federation. The transformation mechanism granted the Brave a longer traveling range, and the suit could transform easily in combat due to support from the LEIF operating system. The transformation structure was revolutionized by folding the arms backward, based on data gathered from the captured GN-003 Gundam Kyrios. A custom mothership was developed for the Brave’s operation. This ship could be deployed when the suit was used in operations alongside the GNX-803T GN-XIV. In addition to the Standard Test Type, the ESF also produced the GNX-Y903VW Brave (Commander Test Type). The biggest difference between the two versions was that the Commander Test Type featured two GN Drive Taus. While the Standard Test Type had lower output due to its single GN Drive Tau, it was also easier to control. The Standard Test Type’s binders housed GN Condensers and were smaller than the ones in the Commander Test Type. Owing to its Union and AEU origins, the Brave’s face could display luminescent patterns for intimidation purposes. The optional large GN Condenser was used for long-range travels, reducing the consumption of the suit’s own GN particles. It was purged during battles as it was a hindrance. The energy cable stored in the head could be used to supply particles to weaponry upon connection.
The Brave’s armaments included the GN Beam Rifle “Drake Howling,” a development of the SVMS-01O Over Flag‘s “Trident Striker.” When the front portion was removed, it could be used as a short barrel gun. The rifle needed to charge to fire, and although it had high firepower, it was incapable of rapid fire. The rifle had two grips: one for right-handers and another for left-handers. The short barrel version had a higher rate of fire but lower firepower. The small forearm-mounted GN Beam Machine Guns were capable of rapid fire and were mainly used for missile interception, defensive fire, etc. The 30mm machine guns were located in the left and right chest area and fired solid bullets. The legs could carry GN Missiles (two in each leg) and chakram grenades. When fired, the grenades caused particle disruption in the target area, rendering the enemy’s sensor systems useless. Located in the side binders, the GN Cannons were weaker than the GN Beam Rifle, but capable of rapid fire. They were mainly used for restricting the enemy’s movement and buying time for the charging of the beam rifle.
When the GN Beam Rifle and GN Cannons were fired together, they formed the Tri-Punisher, the Brave’s strongest weapon and biggest particle consumer. The Tri-Punisher was inherited from the GNX-Y901TW Susanowo. Besides containing the GN Cannons, the side binders also housed the GN Beam Sabers. The Standard Test Type’s sabers were smaller due to the smaller size of the binders. The binders also contained the cruise mode’s wings, which were deployed during atmospheric flight. The wings could be used as GN Blades as they were covered with a GN Field. The binders could function as defense rods by rotating. The Brave’s excellent performance during the battle with ELS near Mars in 2314 resulted in them being deployed for the final battle with ELS despite being prototype machines. The “Y” given to prototype machines in the model number was removed when the suits were registered in the fleet commander’s database during the battle with ELS. The battle near Mars also showed the effectiveness of the suits’ long distance rapid response capability. The suits’ current model number was to be replaced by a new model number when the Brave was formally adopted by the army. It was unknown if the number of GN Drive Taus would be standardized between the two variants.
