The GNY-001F Gundam Astraea Type F was an upgraded version of the GNY-001 Gundam Astraea created by Celestial Being. The four second generation Gundams were used to test designs and weapons for the third generation, and after testing was completed, they were later transferred to Celestial Being’s support group, Fereshte. The Gundam Astraea was upgraded to the Type F version, painted red and equipped with a sensor mask to hide its Gundam features. The upgrades used feedback from the development of the third generation Gundams, bringing the second generation units to a similar level of performance. Because Fereshte only possessed the GN Drive from the GN-000 0 Gundam, the drive had to be swapped between Gundams depending on the mission. Usage of GN particles was restricted, and if the Gundam’s identity was exposed in the battlefield, the pilot had orders to kill all witnesses. The Gundam Astraea Type F’s armaments included two GN Beam Sabers, a GN Beam Rifle, a Proto GN Sword, a GN Shield and a GN Launcher. It was piloted by Fon Spaak, a criminal outfitted with a bomb collar to keep him in line. When Celestial Being was compromised by the Innovators, Veda’s standalone support system for the Gundams was installed on Fereshte’s suits. After the public collapse of Celestial Being in 2308, Fereshte operated independently and used parts recovered from Celestial Being bases to upgrade the Gundams. Spare parts from the GN-001 Gundam Exia were used to upgrade the Gundam Astraea Type F into the GNY-001F2 Gundam Astraea Type F2.
