The Gol Boddole Zer was a large-scale mobile fortress that served as the mothership for Zentradi forces up to Space War I. Built with organic technology, it was biologically connected to Zentradi leader Gol Boddole Zer, who had lived as part of the ship for over 120,000 cycles. The ship’s main armament was a massive main beam gun mounted in its center, but it was also armed with many beam guns. At the end of Space War I, Gol Boddole Zer made peace with the Macross in an attempt to acquire a rediscovered Protoculture song to use as a weapon against the Meltrandi. Unable to do so, his fleet destroyed the ancient Protoculture city Altira just after the Macross took off from it. Gol Boddole Zer fired the fortress’s main beam gun to destroy the Meltrandi Laplamiz mothership, but in the process destroyed thousands of friendly ships caught in its firing path. As a result, Britai Kridanik turned on Gol Boddole Zer and assisted the Macross in attacking him. After the Macross penetrated the fortress, Hikaru Ichijyo’s VF-1S Strike Valkyrie flew deep into its interior and unleashed an assault on the Zentradi leader. As a result of Gol Boddole Zer’s death, the mobile fortress quickly decayed and ceased to function. Many other Zentradi fleets were commanded by similar mobile fortresses. In 2059, a Gol Boddole Zer mobile fortress destroyed years earlier by the insectoid alien Vajra was used by them as a nest until it was discovered by the private military company SMS.
