The GPB-X78-30 Forever Gundam was a custom Gunpla built by Gunpla Meister Boris Schauer. It was based on the RX-78-2 Gundam from the 1979-80 anime TV series Mobile Suit Gundam. The Forever Gundam took the base kit design and added multiple armor pieces to the legs, chest, pelvis and shoulders. It retained all the basic armaments from its anime inspiration, although the beam sabers were moved from the backpack to the forearms to make way for four funnels. In addition to their offensive function, the funnels could be used to generate a defensive barrier around the Forever Gundam. Schauer became fascinated with young Gunpla Builder Hal Irei, who used the GPB-X80 Beginning Gundam and later the GPB-X80-30F Beginning 30 Gundam in Gunpla Battle. Schauer’s Gunpla served as the inspiration for a later design, the GPB-X78-30-2 Forever Gundam Mk-II.
