Gundam 00 Season 2 Ep. 11: 00’s Voice

0
Summary

Marina asks the children in the Katharon base what they want, and a girl named Rian says she wants to see her parents in Suille. Sergei gets up and looks out the window of his Guyana to see the crater where Suille’s capital used to be. Ali laughs and comments that with a weapon like Memento Mori, they won’t need wars anymore. Wang momentarily pauses, and Nena laughs and says she can’t get enough of how Innovators do things. At the Katharon base, Ikeda reports to Klaus and Shirin that Mahar and the Suille royalty are all dead. One of the Katharon leaders asks if it was a nuclear attack, but Ikeda explains it was a space-based laser. Goodman is impressed with Memento Mori’s power and thinks it will end wars across the planet. The 00 Raiser reaches its Trans-Am limit and returns to normal. Allelujah returns to normal, and Marie wonders why she sensed Sergei. Ian is amazed by the Twin Drive System, and Setsuna believes it has the power to change the world. Sumeragi speaks to Lasse about his medical records, and he says he can’t stop now. Feldt then calls Sumeragi with news of the attack. Sumeragi examines the data on the bridge, and Feldt says it’s a satellite-based weapon that probably uses solar power. Tieria wonders if this is how Ribbons does things. Sumeragi wants to start an armed intervention to destroy Memento Mori, but Tieria interrupts her. He says that there’s a group of people in the shadows who are controlling the Federation and A-LAWS. Lockon asks him how he knows that, and Tieria explains that he met Ribbons and the Innovators. The Katharon leaders discuss their options, and Klaus says their entire space fleet is on the move to destroy Memento Mori. Shirin isn’t sure if their forces can succeed, and Ikeda reports that they haven’t heard from Celestial Being. Tieria explains that the Innovators are biological terminals produced by Veda, and Ian sees that they seized Veda and triggered the creation of A-LAWS. Allelujah asks if the Innovators were already operating when Celestial Being went public five years ago. Sumeragi sees that the Innovators were behind the Trinitys and giving the GN-X to the UN. Lockon asks Tieria why he held this information back, and Tieria says the Innovators claim to be carrying out Aeolia’s plan. He wonders if in fact it’s Celestial Being that is straying, but Setsuna declares that they have to defeat A-LAWS and destroy the Innovators. Everyone else agrees, and Tieria is about to say he’s an Innovator too, but Sumeragi stops him and says their main concern now is Memento Mori. Shirin thinks to herself that nothing has changed from when she was in Azadistan, and she overhears Marina playing an organ with the children. Nena asks Wang if she’s going to abandon Celestial Being and back the Innovators. Wang tells Nena that she isn’t as special as she thinks she is, and Nena angrily thinks to herself that Nena is helping the man who killed Johann and Michael. In space, several Baikals head for Lagrange 3, and Revive tells Kati he has a plan. In a pilot’s locker room, Louise sees a photo of Zinin and his wife, and he explains that she was killed two months ago during a Katharon attack. Revive launches in his Gadessa, followed by Bring in the Garazzo. Lockon speaks to Anew about Gundam upgrades and regrets that he can’t talk to her more, but she tells him she’s joining the crew. In space, Revive’s eyes begin to glow, and Marie senses quantum brainwaves directed at someone. Lockon notices that Anew is spacing out, but she says she’s ok. Sumeragi addresses the base and tells them to abandon and destroy it once the ship leaves. Suddenly, the asteroid shakes as the A-LAWS ships attack from multiple directions.

Celestial Being workers are killed by explosions as they attempt to abandon the base. Linda leads other workers to escape shuttles, and the Ptolemaios 2 prepares for launch. The four Gundams launch, and Ian tells Setsuna that the 0 Raiser isn’t ready yet. Sumeragi orders Allelujah and the Archer Arios to defend the shuttles as they escape. The Ptolemaios 2 escapes from the dock just as it explodes, and Kati moves the plan to the next phase. A group of hidden Aheads and GN-XIIIs then move in to attack. Patrick fires a weapon that electrically shocks the 00 Gundam, and Tieria’s bazooka blast against the Baikal is deflected by Bring. More reinforcements come in from the rear to attack Lockon, and Revive fires his GN mega launcher at the Ptolemaios 2, which hits one of the hangars. Mileina worries about Ian, and Sumeragi orders Saji to check on Ian. Tieria continues to shoot at Bring, who gets into close range and grabs the Seravee Gundam. Setsuna breaks free and is attacked by Zinin, Louise and Andrei. Saji forces his way into the hangar and finds that Ian is injured. Ian asks Saji to take the 0 Raiser to Setsuna, but Saji insists on taking Ian to the infirmary. Ian tells Saji that if the 0 Raiser doesn’t launch, they’ll all die. Marie then enters the hangar, and Saji asks her to tend to Ian. Saji and Haro then get into the 0 Raiser’s cockpit, and Sumeragi orders Lockon and Tieria to cover Saji. Kati is confident that her strategy will win and that she’ll show Sumeragi that eradicating conflicts is a dream. Zinin warns Louise not to get in too close, and Andrei opens fire on Saji when he spots the 0 Raiser. Setsuna knocks Andrei aside, and Louise’s Ahead Smultron chases after him as he docks with Saji to form the 00 Raiser. Louise and Andrei continue their attacks, but Setsuna easily dodges. He flies around an asteroid and slices Zinin’s Ahead in half, killing him. Louise and Andrei then chase after Setsuna and Saji. Setsuna activates Trans-Am when he spots Bring’s Garazzo, and he has a vision of himself floating naked and hearing other voices. Setsuna hears Andrei, and Saji has the same vision and hears Bring and Louise. Louise hears Saji’s voice, and he asks if she’s piloting a mobile suit. Louise wonders if Saji is in the Gundam, and he asks why she’s in A-LAWS. They then both ask each other what they’re doing in space.

Commentary

Following the attack on Suille, A-LAWS definitely has the upper hand and moves to exterminate Celestial Being. Kati has a clever multi-pronged surprise attack, but it’s certainly helped along by knowing the exact position of the secret base. Marie detected quantum brainwaves when Revive was using his Innovator powers, and we see Anew space out during that same time. There’s been a lot of speculation about her being an Innovator spy, but given what we see here, I would think she’s a sleeper agent at most. Tieria spent his whole life not knowing he was Innovator, so it’s certainly possible for the same to be the case with Anew. Saji decides to step up and pilot the 0 Raiser, which puts him in the right place for a Newtype-ish naked vision experience with Louise and Setsuna. It’s not surprising that Zinin was killed, because in typical anime tradition, the second we learned a bit of background information on him, he was marked for death. On another front, we see that Nena isn’t quite so pleased with Wang anymore, mainly because of Ali. That certainly makes it possible she’ll betray Wang in the future, especially if she still wants to avenge her brothers. The battle at the end of the episode certainly has Celestial Being in a tough position, so it’ll depend on what crazy things Setsuna can do with the 00 Raiser.
