Gundam AGE Ep. 43: Amazing – Triple Gundam

0
Summary

Girard sends the Thielva‘s bits after the AGE-FX, but Kio blocks them with his C-Funnels. Fram’s Fawn Farsia tries to interfere, but Flit attacks both her and Girard in the AGE-1 Gransa. Girard starts to feel pain in her head, and Zeheart shows up in the Ghirarga to order her to retreat. Girard asks if Zeheart thinks she can’t defeat the Gundams, but he says that’s not it. Asemu arrives in the AGE-2 Dark Hound and attacks both of them. Girard becomes excited at the idea of fighting all three Gundams at once. The Diva drops an Armored Car next to Seric’s Clanche Custom, and he comments on how enemy fire is getting more intense as they get closer. On the Amadeus, Algreus is informed that none of their landing forces can hold the line, so he calls Flit with the news. Flit says they should use the plasma diver missile to destroy the base. Algreus is uncertain about that, but Flit says failure isn’t an option. Algreus tries to reassure the bridge crew that Flit always makes the right call. Flit dodges Fram’s funnels and nearly lands a shot on her until Zeheart interferes and attacks. Asemu uses his wire hooks to grab onto the Ghirarga and pull it away. Kio chases after Girard, and Asemu again tries to talk to Zeheart about Ezelcant. Fram vows to defeat Flit in order to grant Zeheart’s wish, but Flit thinks she’s all talk and no substance. Kio again pleads with Girard to stop fighting so they can end the war, but she tells him she switched sides to crush the Federation. Seric talks to Derek about how they can approach a gate to enter the base. Natora calls Seric and informs him that Algreus has decided to fire the plasma diver missile in 20 minutes, but he also asked her to fire the photon blaster at minimum output. Seric has a realization and asks Natora to fire the photon blaster at one of the loading ports. He says that Algreus’ message is to get things done in 20 minutes before the missile fires. The Diva fires the photon blaster across the Moon’s surface and blasts open the entrance to one of the loading ports. The Abis team then rushes in, followed by the APC. Simmons panics when he’s informed that ground forces have infiltrated the base and leaves his post. Kio tells Girard that he doesn’t want to fight her, but she keeps firing at him and says she’s tired of his naĂŻve platitudes. She tosses a bit at Kio and kicks him in the face, but he says he’ll keep repeating things until they can talk and understand each other. Girard responds by telling Kio he has to realize that some people don’t want to understand each other. Girard’s X-Rounder powers then go out of control and cause her pain.

On the ground, Seric and the invasion force blast open a door and find that the Vagans reinforced the bulkheads. They did manage to capture the backup control center, and Wong tells him some communication lines are still active, so they might be able to access the control system. Zeheart breaks away from fighting Asemu as Girard sets off an X-Rounder reaction that affects everyone and their suits. With her X-Rounder powers out of control, Girard takes control of the bits and funnels from the Ghirarga, AGE-FX and Fawn Farsia. She then laughs madly and attacks everyone with their own remote weapons. Asemu wonders what’s going on, and Flit tells him that Girard’s X-Rounder powers are out of control. Zeheart thinks it’s due to the injury she’s received, and she ignores Kio when he calls her. Simmons enters a launch bay and shoots two Vagan soldiers to get to an Escape Craft. He says that he’s not going to die after going through all the trouble of blaming Fornell for the accident and manipulating Reina so that he could offer her up to the Vagans as a gift with his defection. Seric uses the radio to address all the Vagan soldiers and demand that they surrender in 10 minutes or be destroyed by the plasma diver missile. The ranking Vagan officer doesn’t believe him, but Seric adds that the EFF troops invading the base have been told that they won’t survive. One of the Vagan wounded Vagan soldiers enters the Escape Craft and trades fire with Simmons. Zeheart tries to tell Girard to stop, but he can’t get close with so many remote weapons at her disposal. Girard continues to laugh maniacally and fire at everyone, so Asemu tries to attack her from behind, but Zeheart takes the hit from the DODS lance. Girard fires at everyone, and Kio slams into her, saying that they have no reason to fight. Flit tells Kio to get back because he’ll be overwhelmed by her power. Girard tells Kio that she’ll stop if she can have Fornell back. Girard sends her bits after Kio, but Flit fires his rifles and blasts the Thielva. Girard finds herself floating in emptiness and laments that she couldn’t do anything about Fornell or the Federation. The image of Zeheart tells her that she fought for the justice she believed in, so he accepts her as a true warrior. The Thielva explodes, and Seric demands an answer from the Vagans with five minutes left. The Vagan commander accepts Seric’s demands and asks that the soldiers be allowed to withdraw while the officers become prisoners. Seric accepts the condition and asks Wong to report back to Algreus. Zeheart tells Fram that they’ve been defeated and should retreat. Flit tries to shoot them as they escape, but Kio stops him. Algreus is informed that the base has been captured and cancels the launch of the plasma diver. He wonders if this was Flit’s plan all along. Fram supervises the retreat to the Fa Zard and gets a call from Simmons asking why he isn’t being loaded onto the ship first. She responds that she read a report about two soldiers being killed in an area where there were no enemies. She says she won’t let a disgusting man like Simmons onto Zeheart’s ship and crushes his Escape Craft. Zeheart informs Fram that Second Moon has reached the Earth Sphere.

Commentary

The long battle for the Moon comes to a close, but it really should’ve come a lot sooner. This one arc was dragged out to four episodes, mainly due to all this unnecessary focus on Girard. Her tragic backstory is minimally impactful to have garnered so much focus these last few episodes. Especially after it’s revealed that she was totally manipulated by Simmons, so all her hatred was misplaced. In the end, she just lost it and had to be stopped, but Flit handled it. Kio did nothing except offer his misguided platitudes about how they should talk and understand each other. If getting people to stop fighting was as simple as just saying “Let’s not fight!” over and over again, there would be no wars to begin with. The bright spot of this episode was Seric and his expert way of resolving the situation, although I was surprised to see the Vagan commander surrender given their usual fanatic devotion to Ezelcant. Once again, Zeheart utterly fails as a commander and loses the Moon base, but I have to wonder if his continued failure is another part of Ezelcant’s “plan.”
