Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE Ep. 22: Seltsam’s Deadline

0
Summary

Muran tells Hiroto that he wishes he could go with them, but he’ll leave it to them to handle Masaki. May and Kazami talk to the young boy Thawy, who tells them that the Gundam Seltsam headed west. Thawy mentions that it didn’t used to be scary and saved them before when it fought alongside Cuadorn. He asks if they’re going to beat it up, and Hiroto answers that they’re going to save it instead. Elsewhere, Masaki is attacked by a large wave of One-Eyes suits. At the hospital, Mizuki tells Hinata that doctors warned any further changes in Masaki’s condition could be dangerous. She wants to hope for a miracle, even though they rarely happen. Hinata thinks about what Hiroto told her and declares that she’s sure a miracle will happen. The Aegis Knight picks up multiple One-Eyes on sensors, but Kazami notes that they’re not attacking the Build Divers, and Hiroto suggests following them. At the Milaag temple, Parviz notices that Cuadorn’s injuries aren’t from just one battle. Cuadorn explains that the first happened because he let his guard down against Alus, and the second time was against Masaki. The Build Divers follow the route of the One-Eyes and find them engaged in combat against Masaki. Kazami asks what they’re going to do since the plan was for the entire team to restrain the Gundam Seltsam, and Hiroto answers that they have no choice but to fight. Cuadorn asks Parviz why he’s fighting for Eldora and fixing his wings, and Parviz answers that he sees some similarities between them. Parviz is destined to lead people, even though he feels his elder siblings are more capable. Losing the ability to walk took away what little confidence he had, but then his older brother Leonard suggested trying out GBN and Gunpla Battle. He met his teammates and the people of Eldora because of that, and growing closer to his teammates allowed him to regain his confidence and fly again. Masaki unleashes a large blast from his cannon that targets the Build Divers and the One-Eyes. Eldora Army units fire missiles at the Build Divers, but Kazami blocks the attack with his shield and tells Hiroto and May to go on ahead. Parviz says that if he can help Eldora by helping Cuadorn, it gives him the confidence that someday he might be able to follow his father’s footsteps. Cuadorn responds that he had long forgotten that this was what people are like. Freddie tells Parviz that he’d make a wonderful king and would be happy to serve someone like him. The Veetwo Gundam fires at the Gundam Seltsam, but Masaki dodges. Hiroto is then attacked from above by three incoming units: the Alus Earthree Gundam, Fake v Gundam and Dubious Arche Gundam.

Parviz completes the attachment of the Gunpla wing to Cuadorn, and they take off from the temple. Masaki unleashes an attack that destroys several Army units, and the Fake v Gundam deploys its fin funnels against Hiroto. Kazami destroys several Eldora Windams and comes under fire from the Dubious Arche’s GN Fangs. The Alus Earthree attacks Hiroto, but May steps in to defend him. Alus asks why she’s interfering, and she counters by asking why he’s so obsessed with Masaki. Alus answers that it’s his duty to protect the planet, so he’ll seize any force to help in that mission. May counters that Masaki has a place to go back to where someone is waiting for him. She says that Alus shouldn’t be doing this and that this isn’t what his creators wish for, but he repeats that his duty is to protect the planet. May asks Alus what the Ancients hoped for, but he repeats the same answer. Hiroto flies through the hectic field of fire from fin funnels and GN Fangs to attack the Gundam Seltsam directly, but he loses his right arm to the hyper destlance. Hiroto then performs a limited change and replaces the missing arm with one from the Saturn Armor. He then attacks with the meganic driver and tells Masaki to wake up because Mizuki is waiting for him. That gets Masaki’s attention, but he begs for Hiroto to kill him for all the things he’s done. Hiroto shouts that he’s wrong and can make up for what happened. Tentacles sprout out of the Gundam Seltsam, knocking Hiroto to the ground. The tentacles then sweep the ground, destroying the One-Eyes and causing a nearby volcano to erupt. On Earth, Masaki’s vital signs begin dropping. Kazami is caught between multiple enemies, but at that moment Cuadorn uses a lightning attack to destroy multiple One-Eyes. Cuadorn declares that he’ll handle Masaki and blocks an attack from the Gundam Seltsam. The Build Divers then take on Alus’ Gundams, and the Dubious Arche activates Trans-Am against the Valkylander. Parviz tells Freddie to hold on as he activates the Gundrans-Am System for the first time. Parviz tries to attack the Dubious Arche, but he has trouble maneuvering at high speed and crashes into the ground. Masaki tells Cuadorn that he’s destroyed everything and begs the sacred beast to kill him. May tells Parviz to turn off Gundrans-Am because he’ll be vulnerable when he runs out of energy. Masaki begs again to be killed, and Cuadorn vows not to repeat the same mistake with Alus. The Gundam Seltsam is deformed by the massive growth of tentacles, and Masaki’s vital signs flatline. A nurse then attempts to resuscitate Masaki by using defibrillators, but they have no effect. Cuadorn strikes Masaki with lightning and prepares to finish him off, but the Wodom Pod absorbs the attack and explodes. May asks Cuadorn if he’s trying to kill Masaki, and Cuadorn answers that this is what Masaki wants too. Cuadorn states that Masaki is burdened with sin that is too great for a young person to bear. Kazami counters that it’s Alus’ fault, but Cuadorn states that it was his own fault for summoning Masaki to Eldora. Parviz reminds Cuadorn of what he said earlier about people rising up over and over again, and he believes that if he and Cuadorn could both recover, so can Masaki. Cuadorn thinks Masaki will be crushed by his pain and prepares another attack, but Hiroto stands in his path. He notes that Cuadorn will also be crushed by pain if he shoots Masaki, but there’s another choice. Hiroto doesn’t want Cuadorn to feel the same regret he does about Eve, and Cuadorn unleashes his charged energy attack on Alus’ Gundams. However, the fin funnels form a pyramid barrier that protects all three Gundams from the blast. Cuadorn leaves Masaki to the Build Divers while he attacks Alus’ Gundams. Kazami activates King Mode and deploys a large beam sword to counter the Gundam Seltsam’s beam blast. Hiroto performs a core change to the Saturnix Gundam and uses the meganic driver to drill into and then sever the Gundam Seltsam’s oversized arm. The horns on its head vanish, followed by the suit itself. Alus has his Gundams retreat and wonders why he lost again. As Masaki’s avatar dissolves away, Cuadorn apologizes. Mizuki cries over Masaki flatlining, but just then his vital signs reactivate and he opens his eyes. Mizuki and Hinata cry tears of joy, and Hinata knows that Hiroto is responsible for saving Masaki. Later, Magee receives a text about Masaki waking up and wonders how he can help. He then widely shares a link to Kazami’s G-Tube channel and asks his followers to help solve this mission.

Commentary

The Build Divers carry out their riskiest mission yet: free Masaki from the clutches of Alus to save his life. Of course, things don’t go as planned since they had hoped to face off against Masaki alone. Instead, they also have to contend with the One-Eyes, plus the unwelcome appearance of three Gundams controlled by Alus, including units based off the v Gundam from Char’s Counterattack and the Arche Gundam from Gundam 00. As the Gundam Seltsam goes more out of control, it is deformed by massive tentacles emerging from it. I don’t know if it’s meant to be a specific reference to G Gundam, but it certainly resembles the appearance of Gundams infested with DG cells. Masaki also mentions in his despair that he’s done something he can never take back, which is most surely a reference to the original Gundam series when Amuro Ray said the same line after killing Lalah Sune. As expected, there was a tense moment when Cuadorn attempted to make good on his intent to kill Masaki, but Hiroto used his own pain and regret with Eve to convince the sacred beast to do otherwise. With Masaki saved, all that’s left is for the Build Divers to take down Alus before he can fire the satellite cannon at Eldora again. However, I expect the final battle will be a big deal thanks to Magee giving a social media signal boost to Kazami’s G-Tube channel.
